Long crosses from deep - how to counter this? Post #11 | | Newb

It was a mistake by the right back..after I edited hes stats to 20 there has not been any defensive mistakes in 3 games!
Away vs roma(0-2), home vs inter(1-0) and CL qual away vs celtic (0-1).
I use loose zone marking on back with 5 CF, 10-15 mentality, 10 CD and forward run mixed..

Looks like high Positioning, anticipation and dicisions etc are vital for wingbacks..

I can accept a few mistakes from a back with average Positioning, anticipation and dicisions(15) which is it in serie A.

I found this happens with tactics that force the opposition to play at the back. Ones that so dominate the midfield and back-line that the opposition are forced to play deeper. They knock it around their own back line, wait for their strikers or wingers to pull away from their marker and whip in a deep one. Bang. Goal.
There are a couple of solutions, since you seem to object to barrows on the full backs.
Play further up the field - i.e., attack more, play a bit of a higher back line, and properly harry their defenders.
Tight mark and heavily close down their full backs (the chief crossers).
Have your wingers close down very heavily on their individual instructions (I tend to do this on most of my tactics, since solid tactics tend to encourage these deep crosses).
I also totally agree - what the hell is that left back doing! You need to look at getting him a bit further back.

| Its janku(who got very bad defensive stats ) who lost the ball when he was trying to dribble with the ball.. and a quick long ball to that striker.

And man marking is not an option since im using playing with offside.
It shouldnt be necessary to specific tight man mark just to prevent this sitiuation.
Maybe its just a mistake from my right back..Think I edit my back stats to 20 in positioning, decitions, anticipation, teamwork and marking for my next game vs roma away to see if this really is bad programming or a player mistake.
| If you are Milan playing against Napoli, do not play so narrow! Of course nobody marks their left wing! there are hardly 25 yards between your ML and your MR!!!
Moreover they play 343 which means they have wide forwards! This is an indication that your full backs will have to play more defensively. So turn the FW runs to normal.
Also pressure them with your wingers and strikers. You have the better players make them lose the ball quickly. With players like Gattuso Pirlo and Seedorf they should be scared to death and be clearing the ball right to your keeper. After you take possession away from them play wide and split that three man defense there and we have a winner! You do NOT need overlapping full backs to do that!

Calm down Assenuma
It was just me who underestimated Napoli .. playing to offensive away with 2 strikers.
After I reloaded the game and changed formation to 4-3-2-1(15width) and backs on normal mentality - I won over Napoli 0-2.
