Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

i recommend the ajax training schedule. however, its not just about the coaches and training schedules its also about whether you send your players on loan and whether they get first team football on loan or in your team. (first team football is key to the development of young players).

What about reserve team football? Thats a step up from under 18's! In some reserve sides there are good players coming back from injuries so the level of competition there must be superior to under 18's.

Based on that giving your youth reserve game football is a natural progression from the under 18's on their journey into the first team.

The main reason is the quality/potential of the youth players. It can take many years worth of garbage players before you get get a single player with half decent potential through your own academy. In fact, I've NEVER had a youth player make it close to the first team in the 27 seasons of my main game. A handful have become decent players in the next highest division or the lower quality teams in the highest. I actually had a player touted as the next Renato Gaúcho, but he turned out useless. He got 5-star training and went on loan for first team football, but there was just no saving him.

All the training with all the best coaches in the world won't help a player without talent.

If you find a player and you think he will turn out good, or someone who is touted as 'the next' then don't loan him out. I find that by loaning my star youth players out I can loose upto a full year of progression on his stats. Sure the first team experience helps but thats no good for me if his stats are not improving.

I find that by loaning players out they either come back with the exact same stats as I loaned them out, or they come back a lot worse. Id rather they just progressed through my rank and maybe when im happy with the stats they then I may loan them out, but by this time there around 19 years old and should be pushing for a place on my bench. If you do loan a decent prospect out then always add a recall clause as you can recall him if you see his stats dropping.

yup. i never loan out players under 19.altough i mostly keep in in my teams to 20-21.if at that age they are good players and u-21 players i usealy loan em out or move em to first team.

train youth players in the kye areas they should master when they get adult.defenders -->loads of defending and no finishing and so on.dont waste time train defending for attackers or set peices for attackers.

in my squad i usealy run 5 players for each spot.
1-first team player
2.back up for 1
3.hot prospect and very likely be able to be moved to 1-2
4.long shot (age 14-19)
5.long shot (age 14-19)

nr 3 prospect get first team matches in when :
1.useless cup games
2. when nr 1 or 2 cant play couse bans/injury
3 when i have won leauge at end or it doesnt matter how i play the last games.

one of my defenders :

arrived to rome at age of 16.never been loaned out.

A good indication if a player from the U19 squad is being called up to play many matches for the Reserves team. Then you can you got something special there

ps. If your assistant manager has good stats though! (Judging Ability & Potential)
