Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Struggling to achieve consistency

I'm currently playing as Notts County and i'm having an enjoyable game but i'm now coming into November and struggling to achieve any form of consistency. I know it may be down to my team and the fact that the board expect me to 'invest heavily and rebuild the squad'. Although thats quite hard when i have no transfer funds, a wage bill i'm just scraping under and the transfer window doesn't open until January.

I though it best to see if i'm doing anything wrong as regards the way i'm playing before thinking of getting in too many players i would rather it be a gradual improvement than setting myself x amount of years to do achieve things so first and foremost i would like to see what people think of my tactic as regards the level i'm at and players at my disposal.

I'm currently playing 4-4-2 and my line-up is a follows

GK - Saul Deeney

DL - Austin McCann
DR - David Pipe
DC - Mike Edwards
DC - Stephen Hunt

ML - Junior Mendes - Arrow to AML at home
MR - Andy Parkinson - Arrow to AMR at home
MC - Matt Somner
MC - Jay Smith

FC - Jason Lee (Capt)
FC - Tcham N'Toya

The instructions for the team are as follows: Home/Away

Mentality: 12/10
Creative Freedom: 5/5
Passing: 11/11
Tempo: 11/11
Width: 12/10
Closing Down: 10
Time Wasting: 5/5
Defensive Line: 10/8
Tackling: Normal
Focus Passing: Down Both Flanks
Marking: Zonal
Target Man Supply: To Head

Instructions for each indivial are as follows:

Pos - Mentality - Player Instructions (If not listed means set to rarely or team based)

GK 6 GK Distribution - Long Kick to Target Man, Tackling - Easy, Closing Down - 6

DL 8 Closing Down - 10, Cross Ball - Often, Cross From - Deep, Cross Aim - Target Man
DC 7 Closing Down - 5,
DC 7 Closing Down - 5,
DR 8 Closing Down - 10, Cross Ball - Often, Cross From - Deep, Cross Aim - Target Man

ML 10 Creative Freedom - 8, Run With Ball - Often, Forward Runs - Mixed, Cross Ball - Often, Cross From - Byline, Cross Aim - Target Man, Tackling - Easy
MC 9 Run With Ball - Mixed, Long Shots - Mixed, Through Balls - Mixed
MC 9 Tackling - Hard
MR 10 Creative Freedom - 8, Run With Ball - Often, Forward Runs - Mixed, Cross Ball - Often, Cross From - Byline, Cross Aim - Target Man, Tackling - Easy

FC 11 Passing - 5, Hold Up Ball
FC 12 Passing - 5, Creative Freedom - 8, Run With Ball - Often, Forward Runs - Mixed

I tend to keep the individual instructions the saembut will change them if needed. For example i wil turn off the forward arrows if my full back(s) cannot cope. Also will drop my quick striker (FC - 12) inot the AM role to give an extra body in midfiled against 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 formations. Also dropping down the defensive line if encounterting pacy strikers. Also if my target man if different then my setting relating to the will change.

So there is my formation just see what you think and if there are any suggestions for improvement then list them here also if you want more information let me know. I know it may well be i'm a poor team but would be nice to get some consistency.
