I've been reading various tips and tactic advice on here. I think its fair to say i get frustrated at how good some people are, while i still struggle.

My main problem is how to play against a certain scout report. Funny enough its a scout report that EVERY TEAM plays against me. From wigan to Man Utd home or away i keep getting.

This team likes to play a defensive 442, they like to draw the team onto them etc.

It says they play mixed passing too.

Now against blackburn, wigan and bolton etc i was able to play my counter attack. However i was only getting draws.

0 - 0 1 - 1 etc

I was unable to score more than 1 goal a game Eddie Johnston was missing tons of chances. He has hold up ball enabled and is the target man and he wins 90% of his headers.

Then i got to united and got the same scout report. Also was warned about rooney.

So i played the same, man marked rooney with a fast defender with good man marking. And closed down / show onto weaker foot utds wingers . Also told my wingers to man mark them.

Played the match and was 3 - 0 down after 29 minutes to a rooney hatrick. They were just playing through balls from deep and getting in and scoring easily. My defensive line was set on 6 and they were fast defenders.

I tried to tweek but nothing worked and i ended up losing 5 - 0.

I really should have discussed this last night, but i was so angry that i just turned the pc off and walked away.

I'm starting to work out the game. But results like this set me back a bit, im pretty sure i did everything right to ensure i didnt take a thumping. I wouldnt have minded a 1 - 0 but when the game gets like this it just confuses me.

I take it my set up was totally wrong?

I know how you feel mate. I used to think I was pretty good at tis game and even gave people advice about how to play it.

Now I am sitting here watching my team getting beaten 6-1 despite having spent literally hours and hours reading up and implementing tactics that the likes of wwfan has endorsed.

yet even if a scout report says the team play slow so I counter with fast the game seems to F**k me over.

I used to argue against the people who got frustrated like this but I have hit rock bottom here.

Even when you do everything you are supposed to do ie/ tactically right, the game inexplicitly still thumps me back into the Stone age!

I would never try and man mark Rooney, that’s asking for trouble!

Just as I thought – his stats & potential are just too high for even a decent defender.
Only man mark someone specifically if you are sure your defender has better stats.

We’ve all been there mate!


It’s hard to say really, but losing to Man U can happen no matter who you are. It sounds like they hit you on the counter.

i for one would like to read the scout report agan (in more detail) and how you set up your tactics before the game. i used to use the scout report to play matches and the success i had was amazin. :thup:

Set all your defenders to tackle Rooney hard, SEND HIM TO THE HOSPITAL, RUIN HIS CAREER!!

Only just experimenting with tactics and training.

Two wins over ManU with spurs recently 1) with std tactics 442 (1-0) 2) A 4-0 win accidently using wingers as MCs.

Also with std tactics took holiday option for the season no buyin/selling players Weegie update - ended 2nd.

The simple option is always a good starting place, although frustrating that Wigan can score an early goal and then shut up shop for vitually whole game.

dont buy new players. make the team gel togheter untill it stands they die for eachother.

keep same formation all the time only make small changes to tactics.listen to your players and never play attacking tactics only defensive ones.

if u keep those basic advices u will be better with time.
