so who else is currently managing down under, how are people finding it down there?
i've got the job at melbourne victory and was wondering how the league progressed in terms of continental competition, the wage cap and how many people i'm allowed in my squad; anyone got any ideas?
The A-League is obviously Australian, and the winner of the League proper and the winner of the finals qualify for the first round of the Asian Champions League.
The salary cap is around about £650k and that's pounds. It includes the marquee player's wages, or they call it he top wage earner. Players on loan who you pay salaries for don't count towards this although they do count in the squad restrictions, which is 20 players, 2 U20's. The A-League did this to prevent one club running away with the league year after year like Chelsea or man U. Hope this helps!
ah, thanks guys, i know the actual rules of the a-league but i weren't sure how they were put together on the game.
tbh i wasn't too sure on the continental qualification rules but that was all sorted out by me winning the league and the finals this year :p
the wage cap and player restrictions are seemingly going to carry on being less and less of a pain as the game goes on, but i'm not sure... they rose at the start of last season and look like they're about to again though.
that salary cap is for the entire squad, haha, just to be clear on that.
just in case anyone ever searches this forum for info on this issue, the asian champions league is not entirely similar to the european one. only one team from each group goes through and that means there is no second round and it's straight into the quarter finals. to qualify for that tournament you must either win the league (finish top of the regular season) or win the finals series that take place just after the league finishes. if the same team wins both then it's the team from the final of the league that qualifies, not the team that finished second.
the wage cap and maximum number of players has just increased once more, there are now 25 players allowed in each team and the salary cap is now £897k p/a, i'm in the 2008/09 season.
i'll provide more updates as seasons go on, but my contacts up at the end of the year so i might just leave.
