Having a look at them using that-which-shall-not-be-named they actually had about 8 players within the database. (I'm sure Simon can correct any inaccuracies in the above).

In my first 07 save I played with Farsley Celtic on large database (largest selectable). I played three below Conference North/South teams in the cup competitions, these how they turned out...
Burscough - 2 players in on loan, rest greys.
Ossett Town - All greys
Ossett Albion - All greys
I opened up that that shan't be named to check if these teams had players in the database. Here's what I found...
Burscough (can be promoted to Conf N/S) - 26 players
Ossett Town (can be promoted) - 21 players
Ossett Albion (can't be promoted) - 8 players
This annoyed me, as it pretty much guarantees that everybody being promoted to the Conference North/South from non league will have no or few players to begin with, even on the largest database. This isn't how it should be, and defeats the very definition of a large database.
Which leaves players to make a decision - retain players meaning all teams that can be playable have their full squad but also making the game top heavy with that nation's players or not doing it.
A decision we shouldn't have to make. A decision we didn't have to in 06.
