We talked about it, I gave the new guidelines a once over and assumed it was there. :o
I think we can leave this stickied for general debate on the new game so we can enhance the guidlines as we go on. I will get a hold of Ian and Pete again sometime today and sort out what has already been raised.

I always thought that the retaining player issue was a no no for no other reason than it destabilised the database.
If that isn't enough of a reason then......

It was actually more about unbalancing the game later in the save due to a plethora of players from the retained nation being common in places they aren't normally.
It's become a grey area because of the reduced database size and the recommendation by SI that in order to 'flesh out' the database, we should retain players from playable nations.
I would also go as far as to say it's only grey if we use the retain players option in the game start setup screen, whereas using ddt files are a definite no-go. IMO, of course.

We pretty much decided if you would like to have players retained, then you must do this by just loading that league and having it playable.

Even when, for example, having Poofland playable on the "huge" database doesn't even give you all the players in Poofland?

Secondly, in my save (which Michal was no doubt also referring to), none of the teams which were promoted to Conference South actually had any players. OK, their AI scouts when on a frenzy and signed any player going, but it is an unrealistic handicap to have no players in your squad should you're offered the job of a newly promoted team.
Saying that, my scouts have no problems finding players, especially in season 2 and onwards. Granted, they're all fooking useless...
Maybe this is a topic which requires its own discussion thread?
