Being something of a football manager (formerly CM) veteran, I always find I get mmost enjoyment from the game starting at the bottom and working my way up. Ive succesfully managed this in each of the many versions I have previously played. However, in this years version I am finding it extremely difficuly (more like impossible). I was wondering if anyone else has managed to succesflly work their way up to the very top(atleast from conference north/south/national to prem)? I do not expect to do it in consecutive seasons and would expect 10 years to be a reasonable ammount of time. I am not sure why it seems so difficult this time around, but would really like to know if anyone has actually achieved this in 2007 and if so id love a tip or two on how to go about it.
We don't do tips in here, but I'm sure somebody have made it. Much more satisfactory when/if you make it and you have done it using your own brain, than somebody elses tactics and players you've heard of here or there. It's like playing some "shoot all that move" on God mode. Sure, you'll win the game, but is it really fun?
Keep at it long enough and you'll get there. Or get fired trying
Thanks guys, in terms of tips I didnt exactly mean tactics or players, admitedly I have snooped around the odd forum looking for tactics to aid me but have never really found one that has been anymore use to me than my own and as for players I always prefer to use my own. Was thinking more along the lines of what I should be considering when trying to achieve my goals. And again, as for realism I do not expect to do it in b2b promotions but I do not think 10 seasons in unrealistic, a la wigan and fulham who managed league 2 to prem in 5!
I think that 10years to get to the top of Premier league football from the bottom would be too short. Yes Wigan and Fulham are there, but they are not winning anything and are far from making the Champions League. A good gauge would the amount time the Successfull managers have been around.French git Arsenal coaching since 1989,Jock git at Manure since 1974..Won 1st Premier title in 1994, taking 20 years and Pommy git 1990 World cup manager 1st coached a team in 1968.
Making it to Premier League is only half the job, winning it takes probably more time than getting there. So 10 years to make and atleast another 10 years to actually win it.
To be honest, I find the FM2007 edition the most realistic in terms of difficulty so far. I haven't read about so many relegations before, except maybe in 01/02 that also gave you a tough time when you were in charge of teams with only grey players.

Thats my 20cents + GST
I belive he came in 1986. Doesn't change your main point though. The guy almost got fired those first years due to poor results.
It's a lot harder this year to go through the divisions, and I love that about the game. It's the road up there that is fun. When you get there it's just a matter of time before you get sick and tired of it. Then it is time to move.
Good luck in your endeavours (sp?), and please refrain from using GPG and TTT. It's a given if you want to keep posting in here, but also for your own enjoyment of the game. It's just not fun to be handed everything. Then it's basically just a "click continue"-excercise.
