2010 Season

Pre season was a frantic affair. All but two players (who happened to be two of my best) were tempted with full time contracts. In return for significant wage hikes, they all agreed to give up the hamlets and nookie 48 hours before a match. Seventeen new chaps also arrived at the club, including four likely lads from Icelandic football as I took advantage of the board's decision to sanction scouting trips to all nordic nations.

Steigen's first game of top flight football was at home to Lyn Oslo. A goal in each half left the home contingent of a bumper 1108 crowd torn between shock and jubilation, especially as the opening goal was tapped in by my new Pakistani international who had endured a most wretched pre season.

Unfortunately, the ensuing weeks were somewhat of a reality check, as we suffered some heavy defeats at the hands of Lillestrom, Viking, Valerenga and Rosenborg. At the mid season world cup break we were hovering perilously close to the drop zone. Strange then, that England would choose to offer me the national job after another disapointing tournament. Now, I am interested in taking on a national job, but I was thinking of the Faroes or Iceland. England seemed a little outside the realms of realism and was politely declined.

The second half of the season saw an improvement in results that coincided with some tactical adjustments (I now feel that after five seasons I can actually influence the results of games through my tactics - aquaplaning aside of course). The turning point came when we overturned a 2-3 scoreline at home to Lillestrom to win 4-3. Further good results followed and we eventually finished 8th in the table.

Our little 5ft 5" striker was crowned the Tippeligaen's top scorer with eleven goals and was also declared Norwegian striker of the year. Our keeper picked up an equivalent award. Three of our rug-rats also appeared for the national under-19's during the season. Further reinforcements during the winter will hopefully see us push for a top half finish next time out.

Final Position: 8th
Norwegian Cup: Semi Finals
