Feel free to finish that limerick while I update you on my Limerick FC.

Limerick - 2006

Everybody expects us to finish last in the Irish First Division. I don't know what to expect, the team looks okay, but not great. I manage to sign 5 players on frees (only the GK plays more than 5 games for the entire season) and spend what little transfer budget I have on some new staff.

We go out of the cups early, of course, but manage a decent run and somehow end up first and promoted. It was a season of win a couple, lose one, tie one, win a couple, lose one, etc.

In the end we are 3 points ahead of our bitter rivals, Cobh Ramblers and promoted.

W19, D9, L8, F59, A29, 66pts

Memorable moment: playing the Cobh Ramblers and seeing them have 5 players sent off on straight red cards. We only scored 1 goal during the 11 vs 6 period, but I made sure to say something snide about out classing them in the papers the next day.

Limerick - 2007

Everybody expects us to finish last in the Irish Premier Division. We go out of the cups fast again.

I sign only two players, one of whom would go on to be a star for the team, the other falling out of graces and eventually being pawned off on some poor fool manager. I release 4 players.

The year is tough, but are never really in danger of relegation.

W9, P10, L14, F30, A39, 37pts

There was another memorable moment. I had a good laugh at this one. Our bitter rivals, the Cobh Ramblers, were fighting with St. Pat's Athletic for the final relegation spot. After losing to the Ramblers near the end of the season, thereby allowing them to be one point above relegation, I played St. Pat's. Somehow my team was filled with second stringers and guys who'd never seen the pitch since I took over (and some never would again). We lost 2-0 but were pretty safe from relegation at that point.

It should be noted that Cobh were relegated by 3 points...

Limerick - 2008

Everybody expects us to finish last again. *sigh* This is getting old. I apply for some other jobs, getting none, and suffer through another year of difficult, mid-table obscurity. We drop a spot to 8th.

I only sign 2 players again, letting 7 go and selling 1 for $1k (who immediately went on to be a star GK for Mansfield in League 2).

W10, D12, L11, F28, A35, 42pts

All in all, a very drab year.

Limerick - 2009

Everybody expects us to finish last again. More mid-table obscurity follows, but we improved over last year. We stay in the cups a little while, but nothing close to a final. Finish 6th.

I signed 5 players, all of whom played active roles in the club. Released 12 players and sold 2, one of them for $140k. He went on to do didley-squat Scotland but still has me as one of his fav peoples.

W15, D7, L11, F53, A48, 52pts.

Five of your draws from '08 turned into wins in '09....that's progress, right?

I've always wanted see what happens if one team gets 5 or more players sent off because then the game should end 3-0.

I was going to attempt a limerick but I couldn't think of any words which rhyme with Canada!

Perhaps banana if said with a Jamaican accent?!

Though a limerick with the word banana in about a football manager from Canada doesn't immediately come to mind.
