Did you know that Anderlecht admitted to bribing the referee in the early 80s when they met Nottingham Forest in the European Cup? It started the demise of the Tricky Trees to their lowly position today. No punishment was ever handed out to the Anderlechians, the dirty, filthy b******s!
Anyways, I asked Frank to send me to Belgium, land of my forfathers and my FM2007 adventure began (several months ago).
Frank chose La Louviere. Little did I know they were, in fact, themselves full of corruption and had been relegated at the end of the 05/06 season to the bottom league in Belgium for administration issues. Finances were dire.
06/07
Shocking finances meant I was limited to free signings only. Got in a left back in his prime and another left back who was aging fast but looked better as a centre back, where he played fantastically for the rest of the season.
Finished 3rd in the league and a very promising young SC emerged from the youth team. He banged in a goal a game for the u19s as they romped to the u19 title, then scored a goal a game for the seniors, taking us through the playoffs and captaining the side to victory in the play off final. Promotion! \o/
Cups sucked arse.
07/08
Finances were worsening, again no money and my scouts were pathetic. Only signed a young GK and released a few carp youth players. A couple of youths made some appearences in the senior squad.
Amazing young SC captained the side all season, banging in 21 in 31 games despite a 10 game run without a goal. Finished 5th, missing out on the playoffs.
Sold an overpaid AML in January for £10k, replaced him with a better AML on half the wages was the only other transfer activity of note.
Again, cups sucked arse.
u19s again won their league.
08/09
Board flogged amazing young SC to some French team for a pathetic £250k plus numerous add ons that brought the total to a respetable £675k by the end of the season. I bought a couple of young SC, none of whom really impressed.
Board also switched us to part time, the b******s! Did wonders for our finances but got my goat a bit.
Had an amazing start to the season, sitting top after 10 games thus qualifying for the playoffs. The rest of the season was forgetful. A AML from the youths who I'e been tracking since he was 15 broke into the first team but failed to excite. He did help the u19s to the league again though. They're a bit good you know. Or maybe my ass man is better than me.
Playoffs were a league format this time. Did OK but failed to go up. :thdn:
Starting to get the idea that with a part time structure, I'm going to struggle to get any higher. Applied for the Standard Liege job but was rejected in favour of some nobody from the league below. Also got the Dutch and French leagues running so maybe I will move on soon.
update: nice update, but I think I should inform you a little about La Lou.
They probably are the easiest team to manage in the entire third division. You obviously didn't know this, so I don't blame you (or Frank) for picking them.
Just to give you hope: in my save, La Lou has been playing in the first league now for 8 consecutive seasons, and they have a tendency to kick my (Lierse)arse around :p
From my experience I have to say that you were lucky to get rejected by Standard, because the chairman is a major pain in the butt. VERY greedy, and sells half the team without your consult, plus always calling for higher profile.
