Can't be because I have only gained two promotions and my Reputation has actually gone down to Regional now.

I think that was because of two relegations and a sacking With Southampton and Kidderminster.

Yeah, I wasn't sure about that. Seeing how the board lets you scout the region after they let you scout the nation. And when you scout the region you get areas like Central Europe and such.

What is the step after national then?

Having spoken to Philip88 in a corresponding thread, it seems that if you choose automatic at the start you have a standard setting much like FM06. However, if you choose Sunday League footballer, it seems to put a handicap on your ability to apply for jobs after a couple of seasons.

The reason I say that is because Philip88 indicated that he has a national rating in Div 2 and I am also in Div 2 with an ECS team having got them promoted into the football league and still remain "Local" rating after 5 seasons.

Yep, you hit the nail on the head Mr F. I began my first game by choosing National Reputation. It has an effect on how fans perceive you, what jobs you can get etc etc etc.

But I re-started my game and chose 'unknown reputation' because I felt a manager with a national rep. wouldn't be seen dead managing a conference south side...
