So after 2 years in my new game (Italy), we get relegated. I apply for 2 jobs. One has a decent transfer budget and wage bill, one has no transfer budget but a decent wage bill.
I decide the second sounds like fun, and more of a challenge.
Turns out the club has a chairman and 5 players. No staff. I am the 7th person in the organization. (I have NO idea how this club got promoted!)
Relegation? I'll be lucky if I'm still employed by September first!
I love a good challenge as much as the next person, but I'm not convinced that staying employed with this club AND keeping them from relegation is even possible.
I've had two similar saves. Witton Albion came up with 4 players (all 16 year olds) and only a chairman. They also had a paltry wage budget.
I ended up taking about 20 out of contract players on trial and signing anyone who appeared to be half good. Amazingly the team gelled and I managed to finish 9th.
The flip side is I also had a save with Tiverton Town who also came up. They had 2 players and a chairman. I again had to bring in an entire team and they completely failed to gel and I was somewhat of a whipping boy getting sacked in October after a horrendous run!
I'm pulling out all the stops, chasing down players in every plausible way I can think of. I've approached dozens of players, offering trials, loans, transfers, whatever I thought would work. I think I'm up to about 8 players now.
We've played to Serie C matches so far. Lost 6-0 and 7-0. Both times the board mentioned they were disappointed in the performance. In perhaps 15 seasons of LLM, I had never had a board declare disappointment. I've now had it twice in two competetive matches!
I'll save the rest for my report thread down the road, but I seriously envision a -100 goal differential. Assuming I last that long.
Oh well, theres no harm in trying your best and then bursting into tears when it all goes pear shaped. You should enjoy the challenge. How good will it feel if you not only save them from relegation but also in a few years get them promoted. The game throws up the odd challenge like the ones yourself and Jenninga have mentioned and i'm of the opinion it is better for it.
