Given that his positioning and anticipation suck, heading does not play any role at all. If ball comes to his head, he will play great, otherwise he will stay having no clue what to do next.

With no pace and acceleration he won't be able to compensate lack of positioning and anticipation. Oh, btw, jumping is much more important for DC than heading.

Your coaches etc. don't judge a player by his actual attributes at all. It would probably be too complicated for the AI with all the factors and considerations playing part in judging who is better. So it's pointless saying to the Asst.Man "but but, he's a great tackler, why isn't he better?". The Asst.Man doesn't care

AI is also incapable of telling which position a player is best in. Let me give you an example..

I had this supertalented scottis striker (regen) who desperately wanted to move to a bigger club. I retrained him to DC just to punish him before he left for Torino. He spent most of the rest of his career as a central defender despite him having GARBAGE defensive attributes and excellent striker attributes. Muahaha, that taught him a lesson The AI played him there just because he had DC position (in addition to striker) and had high CA rating.

There's more to a defender than marking and tackling.

The fact that the second guy actually has a bit of pace, coupled with better team work, positioning, concentration and jumping, I would probably play the second one.

I decided to give Mota a chance. He's old but has pace, anticipation (thanks for that guys ) and decent tackling aswell. His first match: Falkirk 1 - 0 Motherwell he was Man of Match

So the season is about to close up now ... 11th out of 12th... i need to stay in!
