It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

So if your happy with your tactic, formation and instructions etc, do you then goto the opposition lin eup page and then set instructions for certain players.?

i oftern tell my team to show wingers down the line in an attempt they run the ball out and gives my centre backs to back into possision should they get caught napping.
There is a whole tactical bibel somewhere in here as I think it would take my a whole post on exactly what I do with my tactics (I've already done this). But just to answer your top question: yes I do every so often use tight marking on opposition players in opposition intructions (T.Henry, O.Martins, D.Bent to name a few) and that is pretty much it. I know that there are points of view on this matter and suggest you take a look at a few. But, speaking for myself, I want to get on with the game so I don't spend ages mucking about....

Once my set-up is done, yes. Though i generally find that I don't need to do it if I'm using a top team. But when I use a poor team. I do set individual instructions, stuff like hardtackling their creative player or to close down and tight mark heavily their wingers

Unless of course I'm out to hold a lead...even then...that's like throwing the dice. The best defense is always a good offense.
Well put. I don't think there is nessessarily a fast set way of doing things but just stick by simple rules. Not letting your opponent in the game is possible when applying the sliders, you just have to know how. I also think, rashidi, that your above post you suggest that you play more or less your own game and not worry too much about what the opposition does, which I think is a good point. Of course, you always have to take match stats into consideration, but you still stick by your general rules and don't go from, for example, heavy closing down to low closing down in the next match... </BLOCKQUOTE>

Exactly, sometimes you play a wide open attacking style of football...and then you're up against a team who play a 4231..narrow and they play through the centre....you need to react.

You can't be rigid about your approach. I created a tactic a couple of years ago that demolised every team in its path. Using it I put 8 past Arsenal with wolves. After that I sent the tactic in to SI and suggested that they sorted it out. The game was way too easy.

You don't need to change you basic tactic, if you like playing a 442..then fine. But in some games you may need to play with a narrowed width or deeper, sometimes you may need to stick a target up front or sometimes you need to play in their half.

Looking at match stats is a key clue. If you know how to read those stats then great. My biggest gripe about those stats is that they never made it graphical. That way I wouldn't have to take a piece of paper and start putting dots all over an imaginary pitch to see where all the tackles and interceptions were coming from.

Before you judge how to instruct each player on how to behave during a match you should check their skills and personality. A player with great flair and creativity ratings may benefit, for instance, from being given a greater creative freedom.
