It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Was interested in taking a look as a red myself witout much succes with LFC.

But the downloadable tactic vs the screenshots are not the same not by a longshot. So could you post the tac from the season where the screenshots are from ?

Baffled.

Nice result against Man Ure
Don't think I've ever beaten them in the league....
Well just looking at your 'Liverpool Experiment' thread you used a deep defensive line, very short, patient passing (both sliders right down at the bottom), man marking, target man supplied to feet, counter attack and use play maker both ticked. What I done the same is...

Deep defensive line (usally 6-8)
Man marking (tight) but only on back four
Targetman supply to feet
Play maker and counter (only in harder aways/tougher matches)

But what I done different is have more settled defence/back four, I'm thing of trying your Libero instructions for Agger but I'm happy with a more my back four as it is - don't get me wrong it would be nice to see Agger Hansen's occasional forays upfield but if it meant upsetting my bc four would it be worth it and if Agger were to make the occasional run upfield - it would mean my fullbacks having to be more defence minded.

Also I'd say my passing, width, tempo settings are my most important to get right I've found, if I can remember correctly you were using very slow tempo, short passing settings but also be playing very wide at the same time, I'm not sure what you had your CM's passing at but I've found my CM's passing as got to match my tempo and width settings. So if I want my CM's to be passing short/mixed, I got to adjust my tempo and width settings to match that. It's because of the position players take on the pitch (via the width settings), when playing a 4 man midfield the more streched out you are the harder it is to play a short passing type of game - you need to be playing a 4-5-1/4-2-3-1 to be playing wide but also have short passing through midfield work.

For me my key positions are the holding role, wingers and out and out striker...

THE HOLDING ROLE…

This season I tried using Gerrard playing in the more advanced role along side Alonso playing a bit deep but with more creativity and less focus on tacking and closing down the opponents. At first it worked beautifully but after awhile especially away from home I started to realise how important that holding role is to keep us very defensively sound at the back, whilst still have the full back and the other CM more attacking minded. I think because both Gerrard and Alonso have excellent attacking qualities, Gerrard being excellent at making storming runs into the oppositions box and having brillant shot on him and Alonso’s pin point passing and amazing creativity – it is easy to fall in the trap of giving them a partnership too much freedom to attack and create imho, just look at the England set up (IRL) Sven and now McClaren have both given to playing a centre mid pairing of Gerrard and Lampard, both are of the quality to play for England but as a partnership they are ***** because they are both attacking minded and are best used in attacking role but without a holding midfielder in midfield you can bee left a bit thin and caught out going forwards.

This the reasons why I realised after my first season how important the holding role/Makelele role is, I feel as long as my holding midfielder gets an 8 for his performance we will win the match but if he is average to poor we will leak goals and draw 2-2 or something on long those lines. When going forward I want him to just sit in front of the defence, and allow the fullbacks backs and other CM to push forward with out making weakening us defensively. Last season I used a pure defensive midfielder - Mascherano in the holding role with Alonso playing in a more advanced/creative role, Mascherano has very high marking, tackling, positioning, teamwork and anticipation stats.

I’m of firm believe that in FM and IRL, you need to have a pure defensive midfielder IF you are playing the 4-4-2 formation. For me getting the instructions for the ‘holding midfielder’ right has been very important.

Mascherano/Gerrard -holding role

I want to wait until I'm settled on the changes I've made, I have gone back to only playing Gerrard in the middle at home/easier matches and back to having a pure defensive midfielder - I've have already noticed the difference to my over all play, I'm more looking a lot more defensively sound at the back, whilst still have the full backs are getting more crosses than before and I'm having less 'heart in your mouth' type situations.

But the tactic I posted above was the tactic I used last season - Screen shot oh and it might not make much of a difference but I played Gerrard on the RIGHT for most of last season and against Arsenal I used a counter attack tactic I build and against Chelsea a press/close down tactic...

Lpool 'Chelsea' press

Lpool 4-4-2 counter attack

So if you wanna test that tactic it would be great cos' that what I'm building this current tactic on...

You'll still not get your defenders to zonal mark on set pieces! This is a key area for me that needs to be brought back into the game
