i try and do it with some of my youngsters and seemingly whoever they are, and whoever the tutor is they come back a few months later saying 'im not beneiftting, etc'

The third one passes on just PPMs. That is sort of useful, and in my experience the one that tends to work most often.
The second passes on mental attributes and personality. I always have my players with high determination tutor my youngsters like this and it improves their determination dramatically. This tends to work a little bit less often than just PPMs.
The top one, obviously, does both.
Most of the time it works, particularly once you have a settled squad after a season or two. I use it all the time and have a very determined squad with a good number of PPMs throughout.
You just have to make sure if there's a particular player who keeps having personality clashes that you don't use him any more.

He means Preferred Moves, when you click on''positions'' on player profile, you can see his preferred moves, for example avoids using weaker foot, tries long range passes, and many many more, I'm sure you saw those...
oh i see what you mean, yeah i know what they are, i haven't been checking to see if thats been happening, the only idicator i have been using is after a while it comes up on news with the youngster saying they don't think its had a benefit
It tends to happen less as the game goes on and the squad tends to gain the same personality (through your transfer policy, tutoring etc.).
I only have high-determination players pass on their personality traits, and these tend to work for me. As for the prefered moves, I only do that now and again with a player who is either in need of the moves for how I want to play him or has "similar player to x" in his profile.
