I'm using 3-2-2-3 Aston villa 4th season
GK(ustari)
3 flat CB(kompany, felipe, dawson)
2 dm one of them is playmaker like even though i didn't use palymaker(gourcuff and fabregas). The other is pure ballwinner(tamas, haestad)
2 MR/ML(deisler, ben arfa, blasi, barry)
3 st with 2 on the right and left paly outwide(huntelaar center, okaka center) (aguerro, delgado, farfan, walcott)

I like the way my team paly when they are on the attacking side.
I play quick fast moving football with fast winger and creative dm.
Tempo : Quick
Line : deep(no offside trap)
closing down : always
targetmen : yes
counter attack : yes
passing short
creativity low
mentality normal

cb(same for those 3) ultra defensive, passing mixed, tackling hard, closing down mixed. run with ball, cross, etc rarely.
dm(gourcuff and fabregas) creativity much, mentality attacking, closing down always, tackling normal, passing mixed, through ball often, forward run mixed, run with ball long shot cross ball rare
dm(haestad ,tamas)
creativity little, mentality ultra def, closing down always, tackling hard, passing short, through ball rare, forward run rare, run with ball long shot cross ball rare
mr/ml
creativity normal, mentality normal, closing down always, tackling normal, passing mixed, through ball rare, forward run mixed, run with ball mixed, long shot rare, cross ball often

original version without tweak or change of DB.

I have been using this tactic for the last two season because I want an attractive attacking football.
It worked out well for the first few months. But this is the problem
I kept on conceeding. Averagely I concedeed 1.2 goals a game
Scoring 3.2 goals a game.

I lost to chelsea on the 3rd season because of my defense.

I kept on conceding from crossing, long shot, freekick, corner. And some defensive error made by GK and CB.

This thing frustated me. As I want a better statistic.

And when I'm up 3-0 or 4-0 at the 1st half I only manage to win it by 1 or 2 goal difference like 5-4 6-4 4-3. That happen quite often.


any suggestion? trick, tips, or whatever to hlp me?

most of it are for 4 defender style.
And i'm using 3 defender.

well do you think it is logical to play the same style for an entire match.

think of a match as consisting of stages. like 2 halves.

say you play attractive footie at the beginning and get ahead. surely now that you are ahead, you need to tweak a little. if only as a counter to the ai, who will be changing its style as well.

what you said is true but I don;t know the setting for good counterattacking tactics.

Another problem is I concede quite a lot from our own mistakes.

Are there any way to reduce it?

like backpasses wich got caught by opponent palyer, misskick, missheader.

And I concede a significant amount of goals from long shot, does that shows anything?

this seems like a passing problem. tempo/short/long etc changes can help here.backpasses i know for sure (from experience) is linked with tempo. so slow tempo means DC's are content to knock it around.

this seems to be a closing down issue. you need players to close down opponents outside the box. a DMC with high closing down etc can be a help. recently i have had success with having a global closing down set to MAX, with only DC's having rarely setting.

I set my team tempo to quick and dm and all cb closing down to always.

Does my gk have anything to do with it?

i don't really like to have my cb's always close down. holes develop esp against players with pace/flair etc.

i myself like to use 3 at the back, and 2 dmc's. a look at the thread might be good W-M
