I have had a look through the threads and haven't found a similar topic, so here goes...
I was wondering to what extent the AI bids for players on ability/potential ability, and to what extent it goes on recent form.
I was thinking of doing a test where I buy a terrible striker, who is still young, and (this might be quite tedious but what the heck) play him every game, loading frequently and only saving if he gets at least one goal and plays well - it's got to happen occasionally.
I I can get him to score, say 40 in 40 over a couple of seasons, does anyone think the 'big' clubs would come in with a massive bid, or do they go more on the hidden 'ability' stats. I just think it would be great fun to see Chelski pay 50 million for a player who's absolute mince and see what happens when they try to play him.
Silly project really, I was just wondering if anyone's ever tried it.
BTW I felt that this belonged here as
a.) it doesn't refer to a real player/team and
b.) it's a test of the game engine.
I would say 90% of the time it will be on there hidden reputation. Only time it would happen other than this would be if you bought someone cheap and they turned into a world beater in one of the top leagues i.e Italy, Spain or England then the big clubs would def come in for him.
Example, I am playing in Sweden, have a starting X1 with an average age of 21, won the league 3 times in a row but not one of my players attracts interest. I have Di Santo up front who I got for 450k compensation, he got 34 goals in 42 games in his first season, and he has got 17 in 14 in his second but not one club has him interested. Not that I want to sell him.
In my experience the AI almost always base thier transfer decisions on CA and PA.
I play with a target man and in a few games I've had players play consistantly outstanding simply because they had good jumping and fitted perfectly into the way I play. These players' value never seems to reach any kind of high amount compared to other players who are playing worse but obviously have a higher CA or PA.
In my current game as west ham I have a 20 year old target man who's just about to complete his second season with me. He scored 42 goals last season and got an avereage rating of over 8.00 for the season and is currently on 35 goals this season with an average of around 7.90. He's still only valued at £5 million and a larger club's never even shown the slightest bit of interest in him.
Similarly, in the same game, I have a 17 year old in the under 18 squad who's never played a first team game and hasn't even played outstandingly for the reserves. I'm regularly recieving offers of £7m + for him. Why? Because he'll have a high PA.
Another easy way I've found of proving this is when switching clubs. In my Sunderland game I had a big lump of a target man who could basically just jump and header (think Heskey). Because of the way I'd played he'd been my best player for about 3 seasons. However when I moved onto Real Madrid the new Sunderland manager transfer listed him without even playing him once.
Form seems to count for nothing in relation to CA and PA. I hope this is rectified in some way for FM08.
As well as performances reputation should also matter. And by this I mean reputation after certain tournaments such as world cups. A player who performs well in such a tournament should spark interest, despite their CA or PA imo.
Yea I was thinking of trying it with a top team so the clubs who came in would know he could 'cut it' in the top leagues. If I was to do the same in the Swedish league he'd need to score maybe 2 per game to get noticed I'd say...
Thats actually weird cause there wasnt anyone interested in Marco Delvecchio in my game.. not even lower teams and I bought him at ajax. (good targetman) then he scored 25 in 37 games and 11 assists and suddenly Juventus, AS Roma & Valencia wanted him. So ...
This worked in FM06 quite well. Form counted for quite a bit and it was often the case upon being promoted to a top league that one could sell off the players that got you there for nearly-world-class money.
I too hope FM08 rebalances this as FM07 does seem to have overcorrected the problem.
