What do you mean by "tweak"? You're only tweaking if you subtly change what you're already doing to make it more efficient.
Any way, it all depends on the player and what your players are capable of. If a forward player is much quicker than your defenders then tight marking might be a disaster. You may want to close down heavily and tackle hard a very creative player who is dictating tempo.
I think you need to give a bit more information as to what you're doing now before anyone can advise as to what you're doing wrong/right.
ok, i got a heavy slow cb ( Chris riggot, good tackling and 15 marking, good header and strong ) and against me there's lets say henry, how should i mark him ? he's way quicker than riggot, and what type of tackling should i use? ( riggot is 17 tackling )
ok now lets say the opposing team got a strong midfield ( for example, chelsea ) how should i handle their cms? always close down ? tackling hard? maybe show into foot? and what my midfield should be using? alot of closing down and hard tackling? tight marking?
Well, has the Chelsea midfield been causing you loads of hassle?
Have they had lots more passes attempted and completed than your midfielders? Do the action zones show that they're dominating the middle third?
And has Henry caused you no end of problems, and if so, how? Is he running through you, or simply receiving the ball in very good positions and slotting it away, getting on the end of crosses?
Thing is, you need to know what problems these players are causing you and then you need to ask how best to counter it. It may simply be a case that your overall tactics are inadequate for the situation, it may be that certain players or positions need a helping hand.
If the opposition MCs are dominating, I tend to close them down havily, tight mark them and hard tackle them to try and stop them playing. With a player like Henry, I might try and show him onto his weaker foot, but overall I tend not to do too much with opposition strikers and concentrate on having a generally solid defence.
Don't use opposition instructions if you don't really need them just for the sake of it, and look to see what the problem is (if indeed there is one).
robben is just making laugh out of my cbs and side defenders... same goes for any high skilled winger, usually physicly strong and high paced..
In the game there are very few defenders who can match up to the pace/acceleration/agility of top class wingers like Robben, Ronaldo etc. From my experience when there is a difference in those attributes there is sweet FA you can do about it as in most cases the slower, less agile defender will get skinned.
My experience of opposition instructions is that against top players it seems to be asking for trouble regardless of the quality of the players you have implementing them.
I tend to go for zonal marking and have at least one CM on ultra defensive so he drops back to almost become a 3rd CB. That way when the top class player skins one guy, then hopefully as another gets dragged out of position to close down the DM will plug the gap.
This works well for covering wingers but for top class strikers I have never been able to shut them out. I play Arsenal Henry usually scores, West Ham Tevez, United Rooney etc etc.
For fast strikers a fast defender with weaker tackling/positioning is better than a slow one with better. Even if a full back is your quickest defender try matching them up by playing the full back at centre half, but be sure that the jumping/strength differences aren't too great as the AI will exploit this. Same applies for strong/big strikers.
You could also try kicking lumps out of them in the hope they get injured which can work well sometimes (hard tackling, tight marking, always close down). Even if they don't get injured it can sometimes knock them out of their stride. I find robben doesn't particularly like this.
thx, but i didnt get the point with the DM ( I play 2 cms, one with an arrow back and defensive ), how can you set him to be a 3rd CB on defense?
I set his mentality on 4 to 6, with closing down 13 to 16. If he has good positioning and a high work rate he should drop back when the opposition attacks. He won't drop to be exactly in line with the CBs but he will cover and pick up players (marking and decisions affects this aswell). This won't happen every time but it has worked for me from time to time.
How effective this can be also depends how the opposition is set up with forward runs.

oh, and how can i counter top CMS ( just like ballack for example, who dictates tempo and shuts down my game )
TBH with top players if I feel my team can match up then I attack them and try to grab possession. I tried nummerous things to shut out these types of players (specific man marking, opposition instructions etc) but rarely have I been able to shut them out.
If they are the better team dictating play then watch the full match and adjust your player's mentalities so that they match up with the opposition in terms of where they are on the pitch, and close down tightly.
