In FM 08 post patch 8.0.1, i often come to play against some minor team which employing some ultra defensive tactic aiming for total time wasting. (whenever you see the "they are in no hurry...." commentary even in the 5th min of match)

They dont even bother to launch a quick counter attack after they get the ball but instead hold onto it and passing around in their own half.

Typically they will have a holding role in 1 DMC or 2, then passing the ball among with the DR/DL, or DC and could easily waste 2 to 3 mins in this way.

Their tactic is somehow quite succesful as they can easily have over 55% or even 60% + possession with nobody going forward at all. It is sometimes even worse if they sneak through and score from a long ball or the like.

I would like to know how do you play against this tactic? As i cant build up any attack if i cant even get the ball!!

I have tried some pressing tactic like 3-5-2 or 4-5-1 but somehow the AI can still keep their possession in their own half and wasting the time......

Any idea??

I use Loversleaper's "high pressure" 442 tactic. Very effective vs 4-4-2 away from home

I'd recommend using a very high closing down and a high defensive line, coupled with an attacking mentality.

It will also probebly be worth playing slow tempo and short passing so you pass the ball around looking for an opening. Playing quick and direct will have little effect as if you try and get the ball forward quickly against a team that is sitting back defending you're making it easy for them to defend.

Actually i am playing a slow tempo shot passing game with a 5-3-2 wingback formation. I have set my formation wide to open up space in order to build up decent chance.

This tactic working well against any AI team applying counter-attack tactic or team with normal to attack mentality. This tactic play very beautiful short passing footing and i enjoy it a lot.

However, if the AI just sitting deep down and dont go forward at all, i cant do much for it and time is wasted.

I have read loversleaper's tactic and want to try the 4-2-3-1 pressing tactic.....but the problem is, since i use 5-3-2 tactic so actually i dont have "real" wingers in my team to play 4-2-3-1 or 4-2-4/4-4-2 high pressing.

Any ideas? Do you think if a 3-5-2 pressing tactic will work?
