Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

I am using spurs and the opponents always score against me when it is 90th minute

Reduce mentality
Reduce forward runs
Consider changing to a more defensive formation e.g 442 to 451
Condider bringing an a more defensive player

Also with the defensive line it is no good playing a deep line against a more direct style of football. Team often start to hit it longer if the aren't having much luck on the ground.

I am playing as rovers, and after 16 games Iam sitting top, not through out playing everyone, but through etching out results.

I am using a 442, and mentality never goes past normal. If i grab the lead and playing well, I will leave things as is until the opposition go to a 424, which is usually about the 80th minute mark, then I do the following -

- I drop my defensive line to deep depending on the speed of the opposition forwards.
- I take forward runs off my fullbacks to never.
- Backward arrows on fullbacks
- Backward arrows on one of my wingers, which ever side the opposition's best crosser is.
- Drop team mentality to defensive

I find this is working really wel at the minute, I have only conceded 5 goals in the league, just beat Chelsea 1 nil at home, with a 6/2 shots/SOT againts 18/9 a good result.

I have a total shutdown tactic. It hasn't allowed any goals yet in about 50 uses. The opponent will still get shots on you but they are not high quality chances. Your own offense will muster about 1 shot at them but if they press too hard you'll actually end up scoring on them. (this happens very rarely tho).

It's some sort of 4-6-0 formation. Basically a 4-4-1-1 but with 4 defenders, 2 WB's with farrows all the way to the goal line, 2 DMC'S, 1 MC, 1 AMC with a farrow to the FC position. the 2 WB's Ultra Defensive mentality. Speed on max and Passing to the far right on Long. Tackling is easy and time wasting is on max. Counter attack is ticked on. Width all the way narrow . Defensive line all the way deep. Creative freedom is normal.
