Ollie in english speaking countries, well at least the US , UK and Australia the use of the first 3 letters of the word Japanese in the comntext of Japanese people is cinsidered racist and insultng. The terms was widely used in a derogatory fashion during World War II. It the same as shortening Sauerkraut to refer to Germans, another racist and insulting term. Hope that explains it.
