Default 2007 A Greek Oddisee - Oddysea - **** ** Trip, my first update

By order of Frank I departed these shores for a little known place called Giannena close to the Albanian border of North West Greece.

Giannena, newly promoted from the 3rd Div (unplayable)

Expectations, bravely fight relegation.

By the time I’d signed a scout & kicked his ouzo ridden ass on a mission the window was closed, so we go with what we have.

The bare stats. 15th P 34 W 8 D 10 L 16 F 38 A 52 Pts 34

Not a good start, no runs, just got enough results here & there to keep our heads above water. Got the point we needed to avoid relegation in the penultimate match.

High point was beating PAOK 3-2 in the 1st leg of the cup 5th round, lost the 2nd leg 2-4 but the pay day put us well in the black.

Major shuffle for next season, gonna try & build a young team so out go the over 30’s less 5 who are worth keeping or can’t be dumped. 4 signings & a new scout (hope the Indians catch the last bugger)

Unusual financial boost but no details in case some other sad arse LLM bloke ends up here.

Season 2.

Expectations, bravely fight relegation.

Finances are very good, Balance £345k Transfer Budget £120k Wage Budget £26k with only £14k spent, trouble is I can’t spend it as nobody who looks half decent will come near the place.

The bare stats 13th P 34 W 9 D 14 L 11 F 43 A 52 Pts 41

Doesn’t look much better than last season but this was mostly down to the youngsters, so I’m pleased enough.

Highlights 5-3 away win over Agrera (club record)

20 yr old keeper capped for Algeria U21

We are bonny cup fighters though, got PAOK again, this time in the 3rd round & sneaked a 1-0 win, 4th round saw a win against our leagues bottom team setting up a 5th round tie against Super League Astromitos. A great 3-1 home win saw us head for Peristeri with high hopes. An epic battle ended 3-1 to them aet with us down to 9 men. Out we go on pens but another big pay day.

Season 3

Expectations Respectable league position.

Finances, Balance £1.84M Transfer budget £178k Wage budget £26k with £10k unused.
In spite of the cash rolling in my 3rd request to improve trg facilities rejected (tight sods)

Here we go again!

The bare stats 10th P 34 W 12 D 10 L 12 F 46 A 46 Pts 46 (pretty symmetrical)

I’m happy!, unspectacular consolidation. Just the job!

Highlights, Another 5-3 away win at Proodeftiki.
Two of the kids I signed are now 20 & look useful, the Algerian keeper has 4 U21 caps & my Slovenian FC scored 15 goals in 27.

Cup sucks this year.

Finances, Balance £2.42M Transfer budget £237k Wage budget £28k with £9k unused.

Some observations.

I loaded Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia, Turkey & Slovakia for a semblance of geographical reality, this effectively meant I recognised not a single player & only the very top clubs, enjoying that!

GSB is second tier & I guess pretty high standard as far as LLM goes.

The money comes too easy I think, although thus far it’s no use as respectable looking players don’t come here (at least yet)

I have high hopes for this team but don’t exclude returning with a hollow laugh for my next update.

No smilies ‘cause I did this in Word, hope to Christ it pastes okay, don’t want iajafer on my case (notional smilie here)

Looks like you could have a good rebuilding programme going on there Kriss, younger players and steady improvement.

KUTGW!

I had some IRL experience in watching Greek Second League games last year (I've been to Serres, being a regular at Panserraikos matches. BTW how are they doing in your game?).

Indeed, quite good standard of play, usually good foreign players, and quite a good load of cash involved. Greek channels also broadcast league matches.

They're 13th after 10 games, not far from me playing them in a televised game in 5 weeks, which I shall relish all the more now

Lot of Turkish, Slovenians etc, I've signed a lot of Cretins (should that be Cretans) No right first time
I've also got a Malteser DC which could explain the holes in the defence.

KUTGW!! Very interesting region to pick from, I don't really know much about Greek football besides some of the big clubs. Anyway good job with the rebuilding process and look foward to the next few updates.

Once upon a time their nickname was 'Ajax of Ipeiros' (Ipeiros is the area in which Giannena are situated) because their style of play, if not their results, was quite impressive. For Greek standards, anyway.
