Started ok with a good run in the league which made sure that from November onwards we were firmly placed in the top 5. Going into the last game were are 2 points behind league leaders Hinckley (who we lost 2-0 to a few weeks ago) with a a game against local rival Redditch at home. We led the game from the 24th minute until Redditch equalised with 8 mins to go. Straight from the kick-off my star AMR/SC picked up the ball and ran past 5 players to slot his shot into the bottom right hand corner. The Redditch players would not stop complaining and surrounded the ref and assistant claiming that there was a foul in the run to the goal, "sounds like sour grapes to me!". There is nothing better to beating the local rivals, to condemn them to relegation and to gain promotion as Hinckley lost 2-1 at Vauxhall. Promoted!

Despite an opening 3-0 defeat at Cambridge after which I was fearing the worst, we fought well at this level surprising many teams with our attacking style of play which brought last years success. The signing of four long term loans from other Midlands teams was the key to a better than average season floating around mid table. Several 2-3 month injuries were the problem as there was potential to be pushing for the play-offs. Youth in the U18s are crap, rounded up and eliminated.

We are still semi-pros but new full time contracts were offered to first team players as our finances had improved. Also a new assman joined on a full time basis and a new coaching team replaced my original group. Scouts made some good recommendations including a GK and a young Irish MRC in the U21 setup who rejected the newly relegated L2 sides to join. One of last seasons loan players joined on loan again for the whole season. 6 straight wins took Worcester into top spot in mid November, but the cup runs (despite fielding weakened teams) took its toll and we slid down to 7th, with a late surge we just managed the final play-off spot with a draw at Salisbury.

The play-off semi was a tight affair with a narrow 3-2 aggregate win over York with a last min 25 yard free kick from the Irish MRC. The final was one of the most boring matches ever with both teams cancelling each other out. A 87th min counter attacking winner from Oxford proved my tactical inabilities.

New club records: 2 (6 league wins in a row and highest attendance of 3996 v York in play-off semi)
Profit / Loss: +£398,247

The board agree to an upgrade of the training facilities in late May to be completed in 3 months.

2010/2011 - Worcester City - Blue Square Premier

Players in: 2 for £0
Players out: 7 for £0

Pos 9th, Pld 46, Won 19, Drn 13, Lst 14, For 65, Ag 45, G.D.+20, Pts 70

FA Cup: 1st round (lost to Port Vale 2-0)
FA Trophy: 3rd round (lost to Cambridge 3-0)
Sultana Cup: Winners (v Morecambe 2-0)

DR rejoins on loan for his third season (makes a total of 123 appearances) and a new SC recently released by Blackburn is the sole signing in pre-season and is largely disappointing. I expect much from my first team which remains unchanged. Little early season highlights except for a 4-1 victory over local rivals Hereford at Edgar Street in front of the TV cameras. I am missing last seasons 39 goal on-loan striker, surprisingly a forgotten man in the reserves is promoted and goes on a goal scoring spree (eventually netting 31 in all comps), but finding a partner is difficult and is solved by a late addition in January as a AML/SC joins from Franchise FC.

We flirt between 4th and 14th positions all seasons but never really put together a run to push for the play-offs and we eventually finish a good 9th 10 points behind the play-off places. The Irish MRC plays 9 matches for the U21 and attracts several league clubs but he commits with a new 3 year contract.

The Sultana Cup win at Wembley was an annoying highlight, leading to major fixture congestion in March and April with 3 or some cases 4 games in a week messing up our fitness levels in a squad lacking depth.
