In July 2008 and Chelsea just signed David Trezeguet for £22m.
Just days later, they made another bid for him of £9m
Then next day there is a news item "Chelsea have rejected a £9,000,000 offer from Chelsea for David Trezeguet."
And if i go on his profile, he is showing as a Chelsea player.

Something for the SI team to look into.

I'll try and reproduce this inhouse - off hand I expect its a text problem where the rumour has been triggered but for some reason the transfer completes before its shown (hence it looks strange because he's now at the club which was going to be rumoured to purchase him).

I don't know if this is being solved but I have seen a similar thing, January transfer window of 2007, Arsenal bid £5m to West Brom for Curtis Davies when they bought him for £5.5m in thi previous transfer window, July/August 06.
