Okay, a little introduction on my game and the problem I face.
I've just started on FM08 with Manchester United and about midway through my first season. Everything's just about looking fine... till one stumbles upon the financial status.

I find this extremely odd as I don't face financial crises when I played the past editions of FM. Is this something to do with the AI for the game this year? And what do I need to do (any advice, really) to reverse the situation.
For the kind souls who reply to my thread, I thank you in advance.
This subject has been discussed ad infinitum on these pages. It seems that being Utd boss is the most challenging of the big teams in that you will encounter a financial landmine after season one. I can't say what causes it, though i suspect it's what Passer-by said, the Glazer loan taking effect.
Well, seems like Glazer hasn't been doing a good job for the club... I'm trying some kind of approach, as I did with my previous games, which worked. It hasn't work thus far in my game, but it probably will soon.
Basically Man Utd have loans totalling over £600m now thanks to the Glazers, both in real life and in the game. This causes you to lose about £4m per month in interest alone.
Having played as Man Utd I can assure you not to worry. Although it looks bad mid-way through the first season it's relatively easy to make money with them. Firstly get a merchandising feeder club, the board will normally give you the option of which type of feeder club to look for.
That plus all the prize money you'll bring in at the end of the season will be enough to see you right. You've also got plenty of players that you'll probably not use and can sell on.
I found the best thing to do when negotiating outbound tranfers is to get the buying team to pay x amount over say 12 months, that way you have reliable income every month, and as United you're going to have a pretty hefty transfer kitty anyway so no need to top it up

How did you do in the other cup competitions? Were your wages under control, signings and such? Sadly do to that gnome and the debt he saddles United with, unless you win everything, sell a lot of players and becareful with the signings you make it happens.
