Before the full patch I was using Beta Patch 1 and my tactic included a defensive midfielder who's sole purpose was to break up play, close down a lot and pass the ball on.
So in the beta patch one this worked very well. The defensive midfielder could be seen to do what I told him and for 3 straight seasons he averaged higher ratings than anyone else on my team, roughly 7.60 for a season.
However, since the full beta patch these ratings have dropped dramatically. My DMC's now get a season average of around 6.40 for the season which is a massive difference.
The strange thing is that they still seem to be doing everything I ask of them. When watching the matches I can still see them chasing the ball and trying to put tackles in. So why have their ratings suffered despite all evidence pointing to them still doing exactly the same job?
Even more strange is the fact that the team performances haven't suffered. The tactic I'm using is my own creation and I'd laid out the details of it in the tactics forum. Other people using it had noticed the same thing and one user suggested that they had managed to get much better ratings from the player by pushing him up to a midfield position.
So I tried this and sure enough the players ratings went up dramatically, getting him an 8 in most matches. Strangely I didn't change a single one of his instructions or settings, just moved his position up to central midfield rather than defensive midfield.
Even more strange was the fact that my teams performance seemed to suffer and I found that although the DMC was getting much better ratings the team was actually doing a fair bit worse. So I put him back to DMC and again his match ratings dropped but again the team as a whole performed better.
So what's going on? What has changed so dramatically since the first beta patch and the full patch to cause this dramatic decrease in ratings, despite the player seemingly still doing a good job in his position?
(I'd like to point out that the players most natural position is defensive midfielder so it's not just a case of me playing a player out of position)
Maybe individually he shines alot more in the centre midfield position however the team suffers as you have no anchor man so in the DMC position he doesnt do as much but when the opposition go through your team and score or have a shot it where he would usually have stopped them so while those moments dont happen enough throughout the game for him to have a high rating he actually makes the team as a whole better by playing in DMC.
Thats my two pence hope it made sense if it doesnt just ask

While that does make some sense and may explain why he gets better ratings when moved to MC yet the team plays better as a whole, it still doesn't explain what's caused the ratings for my defensive midfielder to change so dramatically from the 1st beta patch to the official patch. Especially since all evidence seems to suggest that he's still playing as well.
I'm finding the same thing happening. I've tried tweaking my tactics and bringing in quality players for DMC like Pirlo / Veloso but still struggle to get their average rating over 7.
It seems that even when they play well the game gives them a low rating. One example was this result where everything points to a good performance apart from the match rating.
I'm going to try giving my DMC a farrow or putting him in midfield withg a barrow to see if it makes any difference (not that I should have to ofc).
have you got a screen shot of his stats screen. Under the new system maybe he is seeing less of the ball because other CM's cover more, or he can't find them with a pass as easily.
