Default One formation is always favoured:

Having spent a month struggling (as usual) with variations of a 3-5-2 wingbacks, i was convinced this FM was one that was less about a super-formation that works from relegation candidates to title-challengers.

Sadly I found out that the favoured formation this time is just one that a refuse/rarely use: the 433 with one up front.

It's not like a footballing engine, it's just one that, through the versions, panders to whichever formation has been successful lately.

I didn't have to set individual instructions with the 433 after using 10 years fm experience trying to make the 352 work... Once more it's impossible to play a 352 pressing formation. sigh

I just cant see the possible advantage of 3-5-2 over anny modern formation. Trying to make 3-5-2 to work better than 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-4-2 is like trying to race a 1950's car against a new one. The evolution has happend so try to adaptp a new formation. I played 4-3-3 on this game -worked great, now i'm playing 4-2-3-1 it's bulletproof and beautyfull football. Try it ot, if you set it up properly it works great.

Hmmm, 4-3-3. Might be time to ditch my tired old 4-4-2.

I have always used 4-4-2 with three variations: attacking (winger arrows all the way to striker line), neutral (winger arrows to AM line) and defensive (basic 4-4-2).

Then you change team and individual tactics and that should do. used that tactic troughout FM06, FM07 and FM08 and never had any problems with it. Each time I try to change it to a different one (in the beginning of the season) it ends with a disaster.

Same here riffraff, almost to the letter in fact. however, with the match engine the way it is, i'm feeling the need to abandon 4-4-2, god knows i need to do something to obtain results.

I'm playing a 4-1-3-2 with Wingers at the moment, it works really well for some reason, except that my DM doesnt seem to get the cred he deserves for the work he does.

absurd statement- if you can't play a 352 against the 442 it was designed to counter then the game doesn't represent reality.

I am playing with no strikers and it's working a treat .

Granted, it helps when your GK scores a hat-trick, but still .

One of the most annoying things about FM08 is that the 4-4-2 is broken and doesnt work. I am yet to find a good 4-4-2 tactic. All the good tactics seem to play 1 upfront and thats not how I want to play. Surely 4-4-2 is the best tactic IRL otherwise why would it be the most common?
