Looking at the latest Fifa world rankings, seeing England 12th and Scotland currently laying in 14th, shouldn't the CA's (and maybe the PA's) of the Scotland players be closer to the CA's of the England players?
Now, I don't want to get into a debate about this subject, about how ridiculous it sounds, because as far as I'm concerned this subject isn't ridiculous.
The facts are that Scotland is only a few good results from overtaking England.
How would SI react to things if Scotland were higher in the Fifa rankings as they were about to get down to making Football Manager 2009?
The thing is when FM08 was made no-one knew what was going to be happening in the later stages of Euro qualification.
Plus the FIFA rankings are a farce. SPain do pants in all competitions and are only ranked so highly because of their annual tournaments (which are classed as competitive) with Andorra, san marino and other pathetically low ranked nations so I wouldnt be bothered to look to much into it.
And IRL only probably Gordon would get into the England team even in its poor current state.

Farce they may be, judging by the qualifying campaine Scotland should be ahead of England.
I'd also make a case for Alan Hutton, as well as Gordon. We could discuss this till the cows came home, but me personally, I would pick more Scots than English players in my team.
I don't think you can take much notice of the rankings in these cases especially when a campaign where Scotland overachieved and England underachieved.
It's probably best to judge on where they are playing their domestic football rather than national football. The likes of McFadden is fifth choice or something at Everton behind the likes of Anichebe and Vaughan.
There is a general overrating of Premiership players in football today as you see from the silly transfer fees they move for and unfounded hype.
And if you are serious about picking more Scots than English in your team then I think you are being a wee bit biased. There are more established and experienced English players than there are Scottish, although there are a good bunch of Scottish young players coming through. Just look at Rangers and the amount of exciting young Scottish talent that is there.
You have to be realistic when you are speaking about this subject...
The only players i think that would walk into the england side are Alan Hutton, Barry ferguson, Craig Gordon.
Other possibilities lie in scott brown and McManus who would border line because beckham, joe cole , terry and ferdinand can be world class sometimes.
Alan hutton is simply outstanding, hence why sir alex ferguson is offering him a deal...barry ferguson in my opinion would replace frank lampard...Lampard being the most over rated player in the EPL (imo) and Gordon for all 3 of your goal keepers...
Just my personal opinion which i think is realistic enough

The FIFA rankings are a poor indication of the quality of any team, being so dependant on the quality of the fixtures they play. Would you have been asking the same question about redefining Scottish CAs at the end of the Vogts era when Scotland were ranked in the 50s or 60s and England in the top 8?
Scotland at the moment is a good example of how a team , made up from average players who play for eaxch other, can outperform a group of highly rated players, who dont perform well together. That does not mean that the Scottish players current CAs are in any way wrong.

nice touch with the snow falling on the SI logo. although, would be much happier if you guys spent all that extra time on the patch instead of cosmetic work on your company crest.

I'm deadly serious. I attended all the home matches on the qualifiers as well as watching all away matches, I also watched every minute of England's qualifying matches. I don't think it would be an over-reaction to suggest that Scotland were the superior team in all aspects, so why wouldn't I choose more Scotland players?
I don't go with the "england are under-achieving" mantra. What exactly are England supposed to achieve? According to the majority of the English media the England team has under-achieved for 40 years.
When does over/under achieving become what is expected?
My request for equality is valid, whether or not it'll be taken with any grain of seriousness from SI is another question.
