It all depends on what kind of player you want.
If you want an awesome defender, you need to focus on marking, tackling, heading and strength and such.
If you want a winger, you need to focus on crossing, passing, dribbling and speed
With a defensive midfielder you need a good balance between defending and passing.
A Midfielder would require a good passing skill, a fairly good attacking skill and speed. Depending on if you want a playmaker or a "busy" midfielder. You tweak the passing, long-shot, crossing and finishing to meet your needs.
An attacking midfielder needs a decent passing skill, quite good long shot ability, dribbling skills are always nice, and finishing for those extra tricky shots.
A striker needs finishing, composure, decent long-shot, dribbling skills and header skills.
Tweak as you prefer.
I will now give you a recipe for a player that has worked extremely well for me.
Passing - 20
Long Shot - 20
Dribbling - 20
Free Kick - 17
Corner - 10
Throw in - 3 (so not important)
Penalty - 14 (composure can make up for it)
Finishing - 14 (this is not a striker btw)
Heading - 12
Marking - 8
Tackling - 7
Goalkeeper attributes - 0 on all
Crossing - 16
Scatter around with less than 10 on the rest, and you should be set for a pretty awesome AM, MC
Mental attributes:
Bravery - 20
Team Work - 20
Professionalism - 20
Pressure - 10 (he might get jumpy at times, but you can counter this with the next option
Important Matches - 15
Ambition - 16 (depending on the club naturally)
Sportsmanship - 20 (I don't think these mental attributes get lowered =/ )
Basic Fitness (fitness training will always help here, but some things should be "pre-set")
Jumping - 10 (not that important)
Natural Fitness - 20
mix the rest up as you please.
As for preffered moves, if you want this player to be an excellent free kick taker. Set him to curl ball, and tries long free kicks. Works well.
I hope this helps, if you need someone other more specific don't hesitate to ask. Also, you might need to tweak this player a bit, as I just took it from memory, and forgot some pieces =/
Canabary i just want to know which stats should i set for ambition and loyalty cause i want the player to stay loyal and not get upset if bids are rejected from bigger clubs.
Well I set loyalty to 20 (same as Totti has) he will basically only leave the club if he gets unhappy or falls into an arguement with the manager and chairman.
As for ambition, try 16-17 Just enough to prevent him from wanting to go to bigger clubs, but enough to make him work hard for his own club to become "bigger".
Let's say that I want to create a striker with high physical stats where acceleration, pace and stamina ar all 20 and with the other stats 15+ (Valon Behrami has 20 in acceleration, pace, stamina and strength on one of my save games for example), the mental stats of Raúl (might not be necessary with such a high value in work rate and teamwork) and with technical stats where dribbling, finishing, heading and technique are all 20, and with first touch, long shots and maybe penalty taking 16+. Is it even possible? I have tried to tweak my players' values, but even with PA and CA as high as possible. the values still decrease to 16/17. Am I simply aiming too high?
Basically you can't have it all on 20.
Because of your high stats in the other areas you are limited. there's some magic number for all stats, but I have no idea what it is.. would make it easier though *looks at SI developers* also, a next Raul would have a high finishing and technique. Depending on the CA/PA his heading would be from a range of probably 16-20. His dribbling is defineatly not 20, maybe 17?
As for acceleration, pace and Stammina. Raul has never been the fittest player, Stamina can't be too high, he relies on getting in front of the players quickly, not to run a lot. Stammina 15 I'd say. Pace, defineatly 18 maybe 19. and his acceleration... well 12 I think would be right =/ not too sure about that one though.
As for a second Riquelme. Check his stats and copy them. He's still young enough to copy =/
It is also important that your player isn't too young, if he is, his stats will be automatically lowered. 26 would be an ideal age I think... Hope that helps =/
Thanks for your respond. But the weird thing is that the values still decrease to 16 or 17 (1 or two to 18 perhaps), even with maximum CA. Oh well. I'll keep trying (and failing?).
All players will have a skills penalty in the beginning of a season - it takes great coaching and facilities in addition to optimum age for a player's skills to peak.
That said, if you really want to see those "20s" from early on, try this: select 4-5 key 'trade skills' to set onto 20, then have 4-5 skills set to 1. This ensures there's enough left in the points bank to keep those vital skills abnormally high.
For instance, if you want the second coming of Alessandro Nesta, set Tackling, Heading, Marking, Anticipation, & Positioning at 20, but set Set Pieces, Long Throws, Shooting, Long Shots and one more on 1. You'll end up with a player who, even at the age of 18, will have Godlike defending skills and keep even the best strikers in the world sobbing in frustration. OK, he'll be the world's sorriest attacker, but with the intrinsic skills cap in FM, this is the closest you'll get to 'Godmode' - SELECTIVE Godmode!
If you have the patience, you can set a player to all 20s by using an INGAME editor and setting values to 20 each time the game adjusts them downwards, which happens every 2-3 matches. Tedious, but I did this out of curiosity once and came up with a freak of nature who could tackle and pass like a monster and also made 20 Maradona runs towards goal every game. Wise of SI not to allow this, because the player was patently not a human being, but hey, that's what Godmode's all about.
