I have started new thread because my original was a mess, my fault I'm not used to being on a forum that your not allowed to edit your posts and I thought I'd start a new thread and be more careful and to double post after double post... so mods feel free to lock the other thread.
Anyway back to why I started this thread, see right now I’m just about to start my third season playing as Liverpool, see last season for me was very successful I won the Premiership with five games in hand, ended with 95 pts, won the League Cup but lost on penalties in the FA Cup. Apart from getting beaten on penalties in FA Cup final it was all round was a great season, although I really wanted to do the treble but oh well... here's screen shot of last season (2007/08)~
As you can see my home record was superb, 19 games played, 17 wins and 2 draws and I had against the top four, home and away. I beat Arsenal 3-0 at home, Chelsea 2-1 at home, Man U 1-0 at home, and away I beat both Chelsea 2-1 and Man U 4-1. Apart from getting beaten on penalties in FA Cup final, it was all round was a great season (although I really wanted to do the treble but oh well...)
This season is to tinker with last season’s tactics, with the aim being get my current Liverpool team playing a mixture of pass and football but also flexible to change to playing on the counter like the current Liverpool team IRL. I want to pressure or go for a more possession based side that control games and open opponents up with slick passing but also capable of playing more direct on the break.
I want the attacking wide players picking balls up from the feet of the holding players, but at the same time direct passing down the flanks and attacking players quick passes in the final third around the box, finding those triangles but with the wide men coming deep and then run at full backs or drift inside and play to play intelligently ‘between the lines’ but still supplying the crosses at vital times to your target man – in my case Torres.
I don’t want to play at a 100mph all the time, because sooner or later you get figured and caught out by teams or in my case the AI.
I want most or all to vary our attacks, and not place too much emphasis is placed on play direct to the strikers, I want a much more varied attack with more passing around and moving will be get the best out of our midfielders and it will really help open teams up and hopefully make us less predictable as well. Towards the latter of last season I became very reliant on Torres and seeked him out too much for my liking and I don’t like the idea of relying on one player… Micheal Owen I heard you say.
As I go I'll post my results and update you on what changes I've made between last season's tactic and this season's.
4-0 Zurich (away)… easy win, Torres got a hat trick – one was from a flick on from Lindfield, a deep cross from Barragan , a stray back pass and a bullet corner from Mancini. The other goal was from a deep cross from Garcia.
3-0 Young Boys (away)… straight forward win, goals coming from a though ball from Gerrard, deep cross from Barragan and a well hit through ball from Aurelio that caught the keeper out.
1-0 Basel (away)… only goal coming from a well taken Aurelio freekcick.
2-0 Nacional de Maderia (home)… goals coming from a byline cross from Anderson to Pazzani and a long range strike from Mascherano.
2-1 Aston Villa (Wembly)… goals coming from a byline cross from Torres to Garcia cutting in and a assist from Pazziani to Torres.
2-0 Watford (home)… goals coming from a through ball by Garcia to Torres and a cross from the byline by Torees looking for Anderson.
6-1 Man U (home)… goals coming from a cross from Barragan to Torres that got defected to Gerrard – resulting in a long range goal, a stray back pass, cross from Torres to Garcia, a cross into the box from Mark Gonzales that resulted in a Man U own goal, a goal from a mazy run by Pazzini past 4 Man U players and a neat through ball from Alonso.
2-0 Arsenal (away)… goals coming from a through ball from Gerrard to Torres and a flick on from Torres to Gonzales.
I’m on top of the latter, with a full nine points – 10 goals for, 1 against. We are the only team unbeaten.

this is kind of like the way i play with my barcelona side. it really is nice to watch
I have been working on this approach and can now dominate possession, keep it tight at the back and create chances, but I don't score enough goals for my liking. It's getting right on my tits!
In truth it was just one of those days, their first goal came from a back pass and the second was a penalty. We created only two decent chances and got both on target but we didn’t do enough to deserve the win. Goals coming from a Dean Aston strike and a penalty late in the game.
3-0 Real Madrid (home)
Brilliant match, we play some spectacular football and to put three past one of the best club sides in Europe mind blowing. Behind the 6-1 thumping of Man U this would have been the best performance so far, especially considering we managed to keep a clean sheet as well. Goals coming from a double from Gerrard – 1st only being a pull back from Torres, the 2nd from just out side the box and a Pazziani header from a set piece.
3-0 Fulham (away)
Excellent away performance, another 3-0 win… brilliant!
Goals coming from a Pazziani strike, Torres finishing of a brilliant counter attack and a header from Alonso via a Voronin cross.
2-0 Bolton (home)
After the 3-0 victory’s over Real Madrid/Fulham and plus the fact we were at home, I was expecting a good performance. They didn’t disappoint me, we put them on the back foot from the word go - we scored two early goals within the first 9 minutes, Agger opened the scoring with a goal from the edge of the box that came from the Bolton defence fail to clear their lines, then Manici got onto the score sheet via a assist from Alonso. Gerrard then followed with a goal from a well taken set piece and to round it of Torres with a strike from the edge of the box. Bolton got a goal late on from a set piece, scorer was Faye.
1-2 Gladbach (away)
Strange match, they scored a very early goal and we were forced to chase them, they added a second before halftime, both goals were by Kahe. We got a late goal from a Pazzani header from a well taken Alonso corner.
3-1 Leeds (away)
Good result, pity we didn’t keep a clean sheet but games are won by scoring goals and we scored three. Crouch got his first start in 3 weeks and returned the favour by opened the scoring via an assist by Torres; he’s been brilliant at getting to the by-line and getting in deadly pullbacks back for his fellow striker. Our 2nd goal was a penalty taken by Abidal, rounding our scoring of was a Torres strike inside the box from a brilliant through ball by Gonazales.
REST OF MY RESULTS
1-1 Middlesbrough (home)
4-0 Dinamo Kiev (home)
The opening goal was all due to Torres, he beat two players in the middle of the park and then put Pazziani clean through on goal and he didn’t disappoint slotting to the ball coolly past the keeper. Just before half time Gerrard got on the end of a Barragan through ball, rounded the defender and finished it nicely. The other two were scored by Paul Anderson, I gave him a start for this match and to my amazement he paid me back by scoring twice, his 1st goal was from a pullback by Torres and his 2nd was from a Pazzani cross. It was another excellent win, and keeping the clean sheet really topped that performance off.
This was a superb performance, and varied our attacks lkie my aim was going into this season...
