When I first encountered the 4-2-4, I tried going more defensive and all kinds of stuff, but still leaked goals. I found taking the opposite approach works better. High closing down, deep dline, more attacking/direct/width.
I normally play a 4-3-1-2 formation with MC barrowed to DM, FB's short farrowed and wingers long farrowed.
Mentality 15
Passing 17
Tempo 17
Width 17
Closing Down 16
Counter Attack on
For countering 4-2-4 I only change the team instructions:
Mentality 17
Passing 18
Tempo 17
Width 19
Closing Down 16
Dline 5
Counter Attack on
Also I close down always:- FBs,MCs FL & FR
Now I dont leak goals, score more myself and the CPU goes more defensive.
Interestingly, this exact same approach works against ultra defensive formations too.
