It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default The West Ham Challenge

Welcome to the new West Ham Challenge.

The idea is to play with WH and look at different styles of play, see how well you do, and just have fun! So no complaining and calling people cheats and no Hammer

Try to keep it to single big posts now and then so it dosnt get madly messy, every 10 games or so. Post links to screenshots to save space, and just summerise your tactics rather than turn this into a tactics thread!

----------
Rules:
-Database = 7.0.2
-Playable Leagues = All English
-FM Scount is allowed
-Any form of editing (FMM etc) is obviously not!

Get Going!!

FuSS - Update 1

Started the season by asking for a feeder club and extra transfer funds. I was given QPR and 10m (25m total).

These are the transfers I've made:

Here's my squad as it stands:

I'm using MiNiMaL_FuSS v4 and v2:

Here's how the games been going for us:

I feel it's a shame I havn't been able to repeat that 14-0, but it was just one of the games We're going strong in the league and my team finally seem to be geling and setterling into the tactic. I expect better results form here on out until november.

You've made a good start. Myself I sadly don't think I have the time to carry on this challenge but hopefully I can still take part in the discussion.

I've never followed the Minimal Fuss thread so for me I've no idea about your tactic. I guess I should go and look really. But once thing I am interested in is how the strikers works on the left side because id suspect that the winger will get in his way a fair few times in a game due to the long arrow he as.

However I don't know the settings your using, but id be interested to hear why you opted for an off set front 2 and how it differs from playing then in standard positions

I like the look of this and may have a go, I've been looking for something new to have a go at.

The only thing is, I normal use my modified version of your MiNiMaL_FuSS v2 tactics, which I've had massive success with on 7.0.2 (so cheers). However it does mean that our results may not be that different as the tactics may be quite similar. Although I've made so many slight adustments over the game I've played that it's probably quite different now (and includes an away version that I only use for the really hard games)

So if your happy with this I may start this tonight and report back with how I do.

I usually give Tevez the offset Left poition and often give him free-role there, so he usually roams around the box and goes deep as and when he see's fit.

In my thread I recommend switching the offset Left quick striker to be offset on the right side instead sometimes, as I find this a good way to take advantage of the which ever is the weaker defender for the opposition. It can sometimes end up in a 2-on-1 confrentation infavour of my boys upfront

However I feel the simplest and the main advantage of the offset front 2 is that they see to get between the back 4 more often, I don't know whether this is due to some sort of flaw in the marking of a flat-back-4 but I just seem to score more goals this way....much like you having Dean in a central role, only I like the extra firepower of another striker.

As for the winger arrows I remove them if i expect a hard game, but for easier games it give me a much more aggressive almost 4-2-4 formation - and we all know how stupidly well that seems to work.

chopper99 - Go for it, there's alot more than tactis involved at the end of the day mate. And I'd be interested to see your take on V2 anyway.

Collymore - Not a bad start at all, and signing Chiellini is awesom. I can usually shift him for the best part of 30m after a couple of seasons, although if you don't need the cash he's one of the best FullBacks in the game. Although that's an awful lot of money for Glen Little - he's 31!

You've made a good start. I'm interested in your tactic though as I used a simliar 442 diamond on a Sheff Utd game and had lots of success. I found it to be tricky playing against certain formation though, or against teams who play through the middle due to the gap between the AMC and DMC. This cost me a fair few goals over a period of times and cost me a few points, regardless of the things I tried.

Have you experienced anything simliar?

FuSS - ahh I follow you now. I have used a off set front 2 myself but different from yours. I had a FL who ran to SC position with a inward arrows, and a SC who ran to where Tevez plays for you. I found this to be a good way of creating space and getting an advantage over the opposition as well.

I think it scores goals because the players are so damn hard to mark, and even if a DC does follow them then they create a huge gap as they are out of position. I don't think its a flaw, its just hard to defend against as it would be IRL too I imagine.

Your right bout Glen Little far to old for the money I paid but his crossing ability is brilliant has already set up 4 goals in 7 games

Just lost to liverpool away 2-1 2 goals in the first 6 minutes and all my fault for not setting there instructions correctly

Did Liverpool out play you on the wings? Do you use forward arrows all the time on your wingers? I used to but at times they struggle to help the fullbacks out at times, and I found they were getting doubled up on against good teams. You must experience this too cos you was using a back arrow on them.
