It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

its a good question and one I'm not really qualified to answer! I always think a strike partnership works best with one fast striker and one TM.

If you were to use just fast strikers who cant head the ball, then common sense says to limit the crosses coming in from the wingers and full backs. Similarly, if youre not crossing the ball a great deal, dont play wide or with focus passing down the flanks cos the wingers will inevitably end up crossing the ball to the inept strikers! So my recommendation would be a short slow passing game through the middle with your best passers playing a lot of through balls and both fast strikers making forward runs. Obviously check the stats screen after the game - if your pass percentage is poor and the strikers are getting caught offside, limit the instructions to mixed.

Hope that helps

Seb

I'm definitely up for doing this, I am really a very poor tactician so other than being mocked by the entire community, I have nothing to lose.

I will try and post screen shots of my tactic and hopefully people will be able to put me right if I have made in really glaring errors.

I have created my tactic. I would like to warn people before they try it as earlier and slag it off that as it is entirely my creation there is probably a 80% chance that it will fall on its ass. I am hoping to get a little bit of help in tactic creation as I don't really know the consequences of my actions. I am always told not to have tactics that contradict each other; however, I don't know what to look out in this department. Therefore if there are things wrong with with my tactic (don't worry there will be!) that you spot, especially things that contradict, I would love it if you could set me straight. Effectively, I am looking for constructive criticism.

Well here goes:

My formation is this.

I think that although it is fairly unusual, it has a fairly good balance between attack and defence, plus I believe I can get my best players in general, all playing at the same time like this.

Here are the Team Instructions.

These are by no means set in stone, in fact they are more set in jelly. They are very flexible and will probably be changed every match to counter or match my opponents. Especially things like: Mentality, Tempo, Width and Time Wasting.

My Goalkeeper.

This is simply the pre-set instruction available from the drop down bar, the only changes being, Long Kick to Target man and the passing set to direct in order to get it away from my goal, hopefully towards the target man.

Fullbacks.

Crossing is set to often with the hope of utilising my TM, other settings are fairly uninteresting.

Centre-backs.

Closing Down is set to rarely with the hope that they won't get dragged around all over the place. Perhaps unusually, they are set to short passing, this is because I don't want them to simply punt the ball away all the time, short passing should encourage them to pass it into the CMs who are much more technically talented.

Wingers.

Don't there's much out of the ordinary here.

Centre Midfielders.

Once again, little of any mention her I think.

Attacking Midfielder.

This guy is my playmaker, he has a fair bit of creative freedom and forward runs often with the hope that he will bomb on to join the lone striker.

Target Man.

Once again, fairly basic instruction.

Other information, when I am in desperate need for a goal, I will switch to my version of the 4-2-4 in which:
[LIST]

Mentality, Passing and Closing Down are set to Global.

The above, Width, Tempo, Defensive Line are all set to as far to the right as they will go, Timewasting as far left as possible.

Only Forward runs are changed other than that, Fullbacks are set to often, Centre backs to rarely and the rest are on mixed.

That's all, so once again, anything that seems funny, strange or especially contradicts please point it out to help make me a better tactician and to benefit to forum as a whole.

Many Thanks

yup i got a TM just in case but most of my goals are through my fast strikers rather than headings. But yeah that does sound reasonable. I will try it out soon and tell you how it went
Thanks for the help

hey saab, i m really waiting for you to get to your next year as MC manager....i m quite familiar with what to do in the during the first year ( stick with one tactics and tweak before and during the game) But when it comes to the 2nd year, i m stuggling against rather tough conunter attacking (defensive/counter) tactics which i cant get past (i end up losing or drawing all my away games and marginal win at home. so yeah...i wish u could fast foreward a bit
