A lot of the time I've found that my wingers don't advance when they have time and space in front of them. They sometimes dwell on the ball or take a long time before knocking it forward, or when they get a through ball they slow down too much and waste time once they get it. It's not really a problem with the quality of my players either, since I'm talking Robben and such.

I've messed with the settings a bit but I haven't found the solution since it still happens, and I can't say it's a flaw in the match engine either since I haven't seen CPU wingers do it. What am I doing wrong?

Try this:
Keep the Foreward Run of ur wingers to Mixed and Run with the ball to Often.

This would cause them to run with the ball everytime so if they arent quality, u would get dispossessed. So be careful. And double this with crossing option and a target man for full effect

You should try to increase their mentality and Creative Freedom, as well as team tempo

Depends on what you want to do and what attributes you have at your disposal.

1. Dribbling wingers who get ball to feet and set off.

Attributes needed:
Dribbling
Acceleration
Pace
Decisions

Set up
442 with short sarrows
FWR mixed - He will choose whether to set off or to take ball to feet, accelerate beat player and set off dribbling. (Ronaldo)
RWB often - this tells him to dribble all the time if you want him to play one touch and cross set passing to 1
TTB none..he will not stop to look for killer passes
Cross ball - Cross from bye
If you have targets choose targets accordingly

Wingers/poor dribbling but good crossing
Long farrow
Mentality Normal
FWR often
RWB mixed - he will choose to dribble when he has good decisions
TTB none
Choosing passing based on above

Attributes needed
Good pace
Good OTB
Decisions
Crossing

i ve seen many people using this option and i wonder why? don t you want your winger to cross the ball when he sees a good oportunity?
