Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

I really enjoy this game, the thing is (and I'll not be the first or last to say it) that there are a great deal of features that are so ambiguous that I really don't know what to make of them. A lot of my posts have been regarding 'grey areas' in the game.

My latest one, and one that has troubled me since at least CM 99-00 is the issue of 'reputation' of non-playing staff. Now I would consider that a coach with (hypothetically) 20 everything and a bad/unknown reputatation is every bit as good as one with a world-class reputation and the same stats. What advantages would there be to bringing in the world-class coach when I could get the other one probably for much less money?

Also on what criteria do your own staff improve their reputations? Do their reps just rise and fall along with the fortunes of the club they are attached to, or do they in some way make their own names for themselves?

Thanks in advance!

The only advantage in having a coach with a higher reputation is that, in theory, he should be able to handle and get the respect of players with high reputations. You cant really imagine that an unknown coach with a local reputation being able to motivate the Barcelona squad for example. ( an extreme example I accept )

To my knowledge, reputation will increase only with success on the pitch and trophies won.

The flip side of what Fraz is saying - or another way to look at it perhaps - is that if you brought a local reputation coach to somewhere like Barcelona his reputation will rise relatively quickly (within a season) since.

That is my experiece anyway, so I wouldn't let reputation of the coach put you of if has all the right qualities you need..

If you play a relatively small club, it's better to have staff with low(ish) rep - they don't get snapped up by the big teams so easily then.

I agree with all of this altho while the local rep coach is having his reputation go up, the players he is coaching may not improve and I know which I would rather have.
