I am playing AS Roma and i just finished the first season.( champs with 100 points) At the beggining of the season i spent a few hours creating a tactic for hemo and one for the away games. The homa tactic is a 442 with short forrows and strong mids in the centre( rossi and bodmer). The most surprising thing for me is that the team plays fantastic with short passing -set at 5- and fast tempo- set at 15-.
i was just wondering if you ve experienced the same situations and how long was it till the AI beat it?
I also used a similar tactic a while ago. It worked wonders for me, but then after hearing that Short works best with a slow tempo i changed to that and it worked horribly for me.
I now use a Direct passing style with fast tempo and i dominate all my leagues, but i think that has more to do with my good transfer ability and the Godlike Eddie Johnson.
i use short passing for all the players exept CB and TM. They all have CF between 10 and 12 so if they see a good situation they will make a long or direct pass. the thing is that i have a strong midfield Perotta Rossi Bodmer Arteta and they have good passing skills combined with ability to sustain a high level closing down.they rarely get out of position and all together they usually have around 35 interceptions. i use 2 fast strikers one of them is having TM instructions but the TM box is unticked. The second the midfield is getting the ball they pass it to the strikers. Mantaining a high level of presure on the adverse team will tire them and mistakes will come shortly after.
Because of the hard working midfield my defenders usually don have more than 4 or 5 tackles a match and one of the cb is set with forward runs often.
short passing - fast tempo works great with strong teams (Roma is one of them). However, if you try it with weaker team, most likely it will fail. Especially if players are not good at passing, decision and off the ball. Tempo actually determines how fast players should move ball, so if a player cannot make good decision in short time or don't have a good option to pass, he will likely give ball away.

you are perfectly right. i made this tactic while playing Athl. Madrid season 2009 when the players i was having were world class. When i started with roma it took some time. Not playing wingers allows the full back to over lap a lot and form triangles of short passes. my fullback usually get 60 to 65 passes per game
short passing and fast tempo seems fun! however my players are such schmucks that I depend mainly on my targetman's jumping to create goals, so short/fast is unthinkable )

If your players are schmuck then short passing at high tempo is suicidal, you could of course use it for 1 or 2 players if you want the DM to be the focal point. In that case make the MCs have passing of 1. They will look to the DM first as an outlet and if he is set to direc passing, you have a rapid attack pattern
