2012/13 Barrow (Conference North)

Me and my big mouth! Five games into the new season, and the hairdryer's out again after a 4-0 drubbing at Lancaster. But this time, it doesn't work, and after eight games we're bottom without a win to our name.

In fact, we're still winless going into our cuptie against Bromley, but somehow we manage to scrape a 1-0 victory. The next round sees us beat Hornchurch 6-0, scoring more goals in one game than we've scored over the rest of the season so far, and with a crunch game with Burscough coming up, I have a clear the air session with the players.

The result? A 3-1 defeat, and this time there's no morale boosting cup win, Morecambe dumping us out in a game that sees two of our players sent off within 30 seconds of each other. Defeat against Heybridge in the Trophy does nothing to improve my mood, and then it really is crunch time - Whitby at home. Going into the game, they're the only other side without a win ... and when they beat us 1-0, our plight is beginning to look hopeless; defeat in our next game at Vauxhall, and we're already eight points from safety.

Things go from bad to worse when I'm handed a touchline ban for our trip to Macclesfield ... but nothing changes, and we lose 1-0. However, following some tweaks to the training regime, that elusive first win arrives away at Histon in the twentieth game of the season.

So having established base camp, it's time to try and climb the table. Eight games and five wins later, we've hauled ourselves out of the relegation zone, but we struggle to get any higher, and after a 2-0 defeat at home to Altrincham, the board decide that they've seen enough, and I'm handed my cards.

I'm slightly surprised, and with no other jobs immediately available, I guess that I'm going to have to bide my time and see what comes along.

League: P32 W6 D7 L19 F28 A46 PTS25

FA Cup: 4QR 0-4 v Morcambe (CON) (a)

FA Trophy: 2QR 1-2 v Heybridge Swifts (-) (a)

Something has turned up ... I'm off to Dumbarton.

My only FM07 experience of Scotland has been via the online game, and it's been pretty horrific so far, so let's hope for something better here
