Season Five (10/11): (Oxford United Stars, Northern Irish First Division)

Media Prediction: 12th
Board expectations: Fight bravely against relegation
Fans expectations: Fight bravely against relegation

I sold a benchwarming right winger for £5000 but I couldn't spend my new found fortune due to my scouts inability so find anyone remotely decent. I was therefore stuck with the team that has done such a mediocre job so far. Pre-season was a bit rubbish, I finished bottom of my Intermediate League Cup group after getting one point from 5 matches.

In a break from tradition, the season started well and after four games, I was in second. Obviously this didn't last and I gained one point from the next six matches putting me back in the relegation battle where I belong. My form improved in the second half of the season but I wasn't consistent enough to acheive any more than a safe 9th place finish (albeit with my record points total in the First Division). The club's reputation went up to Regional and my own reputation shot up to Local!

Dagenham & Redbridge take the honour of being the first club to reject me twice while Tiverton took a different approach - they ignored my application and happily carried on without a manager for 6 months and then hired someone else. AFC Wimbledon laughed at me and not even Moyola Park who had already been relegated from the NI First Division with 4 games left would take me.

Final Position: 9th (P22 W6 D9 L7 F31 A31 Pts27)
Irish Cup: Fourth Round
Intermediate Cup: Second Round
Intermediate League Cup: Group Stage
Transfers: 0 in, 4 out
Average Attendance: 213

Season Six (11/12): (Oxford United Stars, Northern Irish First Division)

Media Prediction: 11th
Board expectations: Fight bravely against relegation
Fans expectations: Fight bravely against relegation

Once again the media does not think that I will finish in 8th or 9th. You think they would have learned by now? Though it looked like they would be almost right at the start of the season, I lost my first 5 games. Then out of nowhere, I hit the best form of my managing career and went on an 9 match unbeaten run 7 of which were victories and for once, I was in a battle at the better end of the table during the second half of the season.

Unfortunatly, all good things must come to an end and in this case, that included my striker's ability to score goals. I was first dumped out of the cup with an expected 3-0 defeat against Glentoran and then gained only one point out of my three biggest rivals in the promotion race (Newry, Limavady and Glenavon). The team scored 4 goals in its final 8 games and I fell rapidly back down the table again. I had built up enough points during the awesome part of the season to make up for the terrible parts and I finished in a mediocre bottom half position. Again.

Final Position: 8th (P22 W8 D4 L10 F24 L24 Pts28)
Irish Cup: Fifth Round
Intermediate Cup: Third Round
Intermediate League Cup: Semi Final
Transfers: 1 in, 14 out
Average Attendance: 211

23 points in my first season in the First Division, 26 in my second, 27 in my third and 28 in my fourth. If that isn't improvement, I don't know what is :p At this rate, it will only be another 10 seasons or so before I am a serious promotion contender! :p

Season Seven (12/13): (Oxford United Stars, Northern Irish First Division)

Media Prediction: 11th
Board expectations: Fight bravely against relegation
Fans expectations: Fight bravely against relegation

For the first time in several seasons, I made a couple of additions to the squad and it payed off as for once, I started the season on good form and kept it going until the end of the season. Eventually, I lost sight of Glenavon who secured the title with games remaining but I was in the battle for second for the entire season.

With 3 games left, I played away to Sirocco Works who were 3 points ahead of me with an inferior goal difference. Things looked good when I took a 1-0 lead but two second half goals from the home team ended my hopes for promotion. The league was very tight at the top and this defeat put me down in 6th and with just two matches left, I could only move up one place.

Overall, my best season so far but it was annoying to have my promotion bid ruined by Sirocco Works who start the game below Division Two and were the only team the media thought would finish below me. I gained a slight amount of vindictive pleasure when they lost their play-off against Coleraine (4-1 on aggregate).

And finally, Division Two side Dundela hired that injury-prone Norweigen striker as their new manager. Clearly taking inspiration from my managment, his side finished 8th.

Final Position: 5th (P22 W9 D5 L8 F24 L24 Pts32)
Irish Cup: Sixth Round
Intermediate Cup: Fourth Round
Intermediate League Cup: Group Stage
Transfers: 4 in, 11 out
Average Attendance: 220

After reading this post I decided to have a crack at the Northern Ireland Lower Leagues aswell. The only team I have ever managed below the Championship is Nottm Forest, the team I support so this was fairly new to me. Anyway this is how I got on deciding to choose Oxford Stars as their expectations were not high and so was guarnateed virtually to have the job secured.

Quote:
Season Four: (Oxford United Stars, Northern Irish First Division)

Media Prediction: 10th
Board expectations: Invest in new players and rebuild the squad
Fans expectations: Invest in new players and rebuild the squad

So with my first day in charge I noticed that well over 85% of my players were of the age below 17. Vastly inexperienced I needed to get some experience in and quick. With a whopping £6,000 budget it wasn't looking like Henry or Lampard would be checking in any time soon. However with just under £1,000 wages left to be filed and the average wage of my squad being £30 I decided to bring a big group of players. Bringing in 11 players some with and some without a lot of experience and was expecting a tough season. However with the Intermediate cup first off I thought a good chance to lose with no consequences. Drawing 2 Division 1 teams and 2 Division 2 teams. Despite this I topped the table winning 4 and drawing 1. And the sucess continued in the league. Half way through the season and topping the table, looking very easy now this lower league and 5 points clear. However a heavy defeat to Crusaders in the cup and the league from dropped. Losing 6 matches on the trot which were my first league defeats of the season, now a miserable predicted tenth and sacraping the relegation spots. However 2 new signings and It lifted winning my last 3 out of 4 and finishing 6th, 3 points off promotion. A good start to my career as a lower league manager.

Final Position: 8th (P22 W8 D8 L6 F38 A29 Pts32)
Irish Cup: Fourth Round
Intermediate Cup: Second Round
Intermediate League Cup: Quarter Final
Transfers: 13 in, 0 out
Average Attendance: 285

A. Complete 3 seasons.
B. After you do that start your own thread, don't hijack others'.

Please read the forum headers, Bigben. Couple of key points:

(a) Player naming is not allowed in this forum
(b) Updates must be for saves 3 season's older or more
(c) Not in the header, but hijacking someone else's update thread is probably not considered good etiquette.

Other than that, welcome and good luck.
