| Again, realistically I'd argue that it would depend on the location of the team you were managing. If you were in control of a team in Conference North, I'd agree with you. If you were in charge of Weston or Dorchester, however... Quote:

| I disagree. I keep tabs on a couple of local LLLLLM teams (mainly Tiverton Town and Truro City) and both have no problems in bringing in player for trials - usually players released from Argyle, Exeter City, Torquay United... get the idea?

I'd be surprised, knowing the guys who post on here, if there wasn't consensus to be fair, Rudy (I assume that's your name and is it okay to call you that?)

| The only way to get around that would be to code either the player or the team a unique value to indicate what region they are in (for example SW England, Midlands, SE England, etc) and to say how many regions a team with a local reputation can scout. Doubt it will ever happen, though. I think this is about as scouting will ever get in the game.

Don't the city/town they play in already have geographic coordinates in the game? Surely it would be possible to allow scouting within a certain distance of these coordinates?
Take a look at the FREDs you get as well. All my WSM now Billericay FREDs have been local boys, being from the town itself or a neighbouring one. The game certainly has a good knowledge of geography, or you'd get FREDs turning up from all sorts of locations.

It should be possible, though you'd have problems with the likes of Berwick Rangers playing in Scotland, residing in England and only being able to scout Scotland if the board so deem.
Would the distance from the ground take in crossing borders (any Nation, btw)?

I have no idea if teams are coded with coordinates or not, Simon, and TBH that might complicate things too much. It would be simpler to code to give a team a regional value and then to say which regions close to that (including cross borders) are scoutable.

(side issue)
I saw a News item about Iran and the Jewish population there. Apparently it's sizeable and there's little or no trouble between the "ethnic" Iranians and the Jews.
By the same token don't the Arabs and Jews live in harmony in Haifa?
Hell even I speak to Englishmen sometimes |

| You could do it, as I hinted, if each region had a unique code: say Jockland was split into 4 regions (Jock1-4) and Berwick was in region Jock4. Berwick could then scout teams (or released players with a scrambled value - as long as their nationality matched) in, say, regions Jock3, Jock4, and Poof1 (assuming Poof1 was the northernmost counties in Poofland.
Just an idea...
