question about signing a player that you know about
basically, the rules say that you cant sign a player that hasnt been scouted or and that you cant use the "search" bar to find players because that means you have been tipped about them. now, im going to use an obvious player name that even my great grandma knows about for an example so not to raise an issue about player tipping. so heres my question.
say i started a game in the conference north/south, and i eventually got into the premiership. would i be allowed to sign *overrated scouse git* (if he hasnt passed away by this point lol) or would that break thbe rules of signing a player that you already know about ?

People around here probably wont take kindly to you naming a certain Scouse MC, but things like this are a little tricky, its certainly a grey area as all nearly managers will know about their home nations internationals, especially if they manage in that same league. However when you are playing in a lower league this isnt a problem as you can't usually sign them and even attempting to is foolish.
However in your situation two points do arise.
a) If you have to ask the answer is probably not allowed.
b) Although you know he was a good player in his prime, whats he like now, for all you know he broke his leg and never recovered, if his current club are willing to let him go he obviously isnt as good as he was before, so on those grounds you'd be mad not to scout him.
Although point b) does bring up the issue of weather you should be able to scout a player because you know he's good (as in he's an international not you read him in a forum).
It's all a strange shade of grey.

If you read about him in a news message or somesuch ingame, you can then send a scout to check him out, and once you have your scout report you could, I suppose, sign said player. What you cannot do is just go straight out and sign him.
News item saying something about a player (POTY or POTM) if I am curious I send a scout to get a report.
Oh and Player naming ( ) not allowed for any player past or present I'm afraid FYI

I disagree - there would be examples where you wouldn't necessarily have to scout a player if their reputation speaks for itself, but these are the cream of the cream. If you finally found yourself in the Premiership and there was a 27 year old English international knocking in 30 goals a season (hey, it is a game, it might happen for England one day) then it would be kind of pointless to scout the player.
If, however, it was an ex-international who was playing in his late 30s, then I would send my scouts out to assess him.
The point about the scouting guidelines is that it is to stop people signing uber-players from the lower ranks of football just because you signed him in a previous save and he was bloody brilliant for you - to prevent prior knowledge of players.

What about if their reputation speaks for themselves now?
They game is really well researched, and I follow lower league football, so before I started playing I could have told you the Conference North/South equivalents IRL of the scouse transfer-boomerang named above. Could I have signed them in my first season?
Or using the example of 30 goals a season can you sign the equivalent from your div?
"If you finally found yourself in the Premiership and there was a 27 year old English international knocking in 30 goals a season (hey, it is a game, it might happen for England one day)" - Are you still drunk from last night or starting early today
BTW Quinny are you an Argyle fan? (I'm guessing so but I can't remember for sure). If so, bloody good luck for tomorrow mate!

No, in the game you can't make assumptions about players in the lower leagues, just because you happen to follow lower league football in real life. And if there was a player knocking in 30 goals a season in Conference South you'd only need to send your scouts out to check he really is the business. What I'm saying is, there are certain players who will speak for themselves. I'm sure Argyle's manager in real life wouldn't send a scout out to check the scouser named in the first post in this thread - he'd know he'd do the job for Argyle, as would the long-haired buck-toothed Brazilian playing for Barca. However, even though he's played against most players in the Championship, I'm sure he's get a potential signing assessed by his scouts (or watch him play himself a couple of times) before making a bid.

Yup, am getting bloody nervous at the moment. This is one of our biggest games - apart from the last time we played Watford in the FA Cup, or the time we played (and beat) Santos back in the 70s.

I'm realising now how badly worded my post was, as my point was really meant to the original poster and not yourself , and it seems my fingers and brain aren't working together today
Just for the record though (in case I get flamed) it's not an issue anyway, as I scout anyway (if only for a scapegoat when it alll goes tragically wrong... bloody scouts!! )

Good luck against Watford, then, I hope you guys do win, and get drawn against Man City. I do NOT want to play ManUre or Chelski in the semis!
