Having a thought here, as dangerous as that can be.
I'm Scottish in my game, but managing in Wales with the well known hindrance of only being able to scout Wales.
If I don't have a mid-week game, would I able to click view on another match in Scotland, in a bid to find a player to buy? Most managers look at players themselves as well as Scouts.
A simple read of the Sunday Post to see who's playing well, and a 4 hour drive up north to watch a player while visiting the family doesn't seem that unrealistic. Hell, I know JJ at Kilmarnock used to spend hours and his own money driving round dumps in Scotland to find any decent players.
I'm assuming this will get shot down, but, personally, I think this would add to the realistic flavour.
Doesn't sound too unreasonable, although regular visits from Wales up to Scotland would be expensive, and I'm sure JJ get's paid a lot more than some lower league managers, who manage part-time and have full-time jobs.
Personaly, I just leave it to my scouts, that's what they're paid for.
And the Sunday Post, c'mon, only decent info you'll get out of that is what Oor Wullie's been up to.
Christ Norm, you do a lot of thinking, no customers in your bar?
Gotta confess you've stumped me on that one, my personal view is that only you know if you're playing fair so to speak.
I wouldn't do it because it would only depress me but I suppose in theory it replicates rl to an extent.
It's not just the "unreasonable" aspect, Scott, "realism" fits in there too.
Managing in Wales I'd be very surprised if you were full time.
Then we have distance, travelling expenses, etc.
So we're at...part time manager, earning his real bread cleaning windows or servicing cars or whatever, would he be even remotely interested in spending his time off driving up to Dingwall to see Ross playing Stranraer?
Nah...I'd say he'd send his scout when the board finally allowed him and concentrate on the players available to be scouted in Welsh Wales.

Plenty of customers. But being the assistant manager means I can sit on my ar$e in the office pretending to do paperwork while they do all the real stuff.
But with regards to being remotely interested in driving up north, I'd say two or three times a season, while visiting friends and family doesn't sound all that unrealistic.
And hey, if I'm running a bar or hotel (as I do IRL), you're still looking at 4-5 weeks holiday a year plus an assistant manager to beast with 100+ hour weeks while you sit on your scratcher.

That's what I was trying to point out, just not so well.
TBH I'm sure managers do take in other games on their travels (even visiting friends), and there is the option to watch other games in FM, but to be realistic it would be so few games that it wouldn't really be worthwile.
Questions like this seem to crop up quite often, and usualy end up with 'it's your game, play how you want' or 'if you thhink it may be wrong and have to ask, it probably is'.
And I suppose they are still the best two answers.
