After announcing that the club couldn't afford any transfer funds, the Basingstoke Town manager decided that enough was enough and walked out on the club he had served well.
The fans, whilst sympathetic of the clubs situation, were deeply upset that the board couldn't have reached a compromise as so the boss and the club were to go their separate ways.
The news rocked the club at the worst possible times. Tipped for relegation, the Assistant Manager took the reigns and put the players through pre-season training whilst the Chairman sought through the candidates.
Seven applications were received from Ryman League and Ishmathian League managers with a couple of Irish and Scottish clubs seeing their main man apply for the vacant position at The Camrose Ground.
One application stood out. Dan Jennings. A 36 year old former Ipswich, Plymouth and Tottenham striker who'd won four U21 caps scoring the once in a friendly against Belgium and he enjoyed a good career at Championship level with Ipswich and Plymouth after guiding Argyle from League 2 and League 1 early on in 2000's. Jennings had played twice at Basingstoke after his retirement from professional football as a personal favour to his best friend, who was also a player at the club in 2005.
Jennings was looking to cut his teeth in management. He had earned a good living from the game and wasn't fussed about a big salary at a Championship or League 1 club. He was more interested in making something good happen at a club close to his heart and he had nothing but kind words to say about the Hampshire outfit.
A 30 minute chat with the chairman was all he needed to decide to accept the offer to take the reigns. The players were excited to be working with a man who as a player was Nationally known. The previous boss was almost forgotten about overnight.
The Pre-Season schedule had been arranged and Jennings' men would visit 4 sides below the Conference South with two Conference North teams visiting Camrose. Four wins, a draw and a defeat followed but more importantly the side was getting the ball down and playing good football, something the fans admitted had lacked in the previous campaign.
Jennings brought in a centre-back, left-back and central midfielder, all youngsters from League 1 clubs who were said to be excited about working with their new boss.
Right, I see another problem you have is that you ignore Forum Headers and Guidelines.
Three seasons before you start an update...that's not an update, that's an epic...and no player naming, ever, under any circumstances, even if it refers to yourself.
But dear boy I am 3 seasons in (having played it solidly for a stupid amount of time) ... so don't be so presumptious!
I just haven't finished yet.
Secondly, not naming players? Er .. I have named myself. Surely I can name myself? I assumed you can't name real players due to rights infringements etc. Are you suggesting that you cannot name yourself?
Gee!
This forum needs to lighten up a bit. How about a 'you are on the wrong page' or 'can you try and refrain from doing this'
I would expect better of basic signs or sarcasm from a moderator.
I could have named players but didn't (refering to them by positions) but I must apologising for not seeing 'don't use your own name' in the forums. Perhaps you can point this out to me?
So you've not only presumed I haven't played 3 seasons but you have also had a go for using my own name. I am not a player in the game therefore I am merely a fictional character and
as far as I can see under the forum header I can use fiction. Or is this banned to.
Updates are limited to a paragraph or two per season, which really is the biggest problem with your first post. If you want to write a story, you can use the story forum.
Mr. Jennings - it's an hour and a half since you posted up your essay and we've not seen the three seasons yet. We've not even seen a competitive game. While it may be presumptive of people to pre-judge, there have been an awful lot of people post similar starts and then abandon them. That's why there's a three season rule, and we're expected to post them all up at once.
Personally I don't see a problem with naming yourself in terms of the rules, but I'd suggest you look up "floodgate scenario" to see why it's not generally a good idea to name anyone. I'd say naming yourself is more of a problem in that it screams "story" rather than "update" to me.
Updates are updates about your current savegame. They state facts and interesting stuff. They do not state lies or made up things.
So, according to my information (I work in sports journalism), no player of that (your?) name ever played for them in the past 20 years. Which means, it's made up. Which means that this does not count as an update but as a (fictitious) story.
Enjoy telling your story. There. Or do an update in the correct fashion like we all agreed on.
