So I decided to go for Barrow as my LLM game after I found Rushden a little easy and they are not bottom of the ladder. Luckily I spent a good time scouring players and it paid off, landed all my targets, notably a decent striker (top scorer and my player of the year 3 seasons in a row!), centre mid and 2 wingers who are all still in my squad as I go into my fourth season. As I sold most of the squad (had 3 original Barrow playes in my final squad) we had a slow start, but picked up and finished 1st by 3 points.
Season 2 -
Another busy transfer market allowed me to put quality players in the positions we had been missing, notably a former Argentinian international centre back, a 19 yr old keeper from a premier league side and a 19 yo creative centre mid. Started really slowly, was hovering between mid table and the playoffs all the way up until January, and then went on a 19 match unbeaten run and finished in third. Despite fans pessism I beat both Rushden and Stockport to gain promotion!
Season 3 –
The club turned professional, but the club still only gave me a 10k budget for wages. Predicted to come rock bottom, I decided to ignore the budget constraints and bid on a ton of unattached players at once, many of who came to give me a wage bill of 14.5k, much to the dismay of the board. Most notable signings were a decent striker from a premier league youth team who ended up with the most assists for my team, a Scottish former MLS player and a player from parent club, Preston. Started off flying and somehow blitzed the league with 93 points, 12 points clear of the other Conference promoted team, Oxford in second.
Season 4 –
Again no transfer budget despite a bank balance of nearly 1m, but this was quickly rectified when my board accepted a bid of 350k for my keeper, who had gained England u19 honours, from Swindon. My wage budget was fairly decent and this has allowed me to strengthen my team with a record signing 35k striker, a young winger from a top premiership team, another striker – a Spanish player playing in the Championship and a French fullback. Think I can avoid relegation but the way things are going I really don’t know!
Will update soon, and put tables, information on tomorrow. Really enjoying this but have a uni essay due in Wednesday so may not make much progress which will be gutting!
