First off, I'm still playing FM07, but by the feedback SI has been getting, it hasn't changed much, it seems.

I've got Glentoran demanding money for a player whose contract has long expired, and they've unfortunately yet depart ways. How can they ask money for a player with whom they don't even have a binding contract?

Other thing - of course I can skip the club and offer a contract directly to the player as his contract is not valid anymore, but this is totally unreasonable. The player is 23 years old, has been with Glentoran for one season after joining from Coleraine, yet Glentoran have to been compensated with 80k. How on earth - Glentoran is not the club that brought him up, that's Coleraine! Why do I need to compensate Glentoran with anything?

Also, since I'm already raising this transfer issue, I've been baffled since the (iirc) CM4 days (the time 'compensating raising clubs' was introduced) by the line 'as player x is under the age of twenty-four, he will be allowed to move on a free transfer if he is not offered a deal of equal or greater terms than his current contract'. What? Could anyone explain what that means because as I understand it, an under-24 player must be offered a contract that is at least as good as his previous contract (can't tune down his wage, bonuses etc) and player over 24 can't move on a free transfer when their contracts run out. Or am I missing something here?

Yes, I know that.

Why can't under-24 players be offered lower terms in their contracts though? How does that rule serve helping small clubs develop talent, which is why this 'compensation' thing was brought into the game?

Default

What bugs me is that it says
can move elsewhere for no compensation if not offered an equal or better contract about under-24 players.

That is exactly the opposite to what it's supposed to be. I'm not sure if it works like this in FM aswell or is it just a detail that's gone wrong but does not affect the game.
