They should add more options then if there is no effect from it, rather than have Doesn't seem to be listening, this should read Nothing specific noted.
This would mean that they take into account what you are saying, but it has had no effect to them. This makes more sense than the poxy responses we have now.

They rarely listen if you are winning, but if you are losing it can make all the difference, it doesn't happen often but occasionally you look at it and everyone gets morale boost, seems happy, determined... focused, that kind of stuff, and you get a major comeback.

edit:
The only thing I would say, is pretty much the only one that matters is the half time, I almost always invoke a response from a few of the players at half time.
Then again, if my players were willing to die for eachother... They could all listen |

There's always entertaining contradiction on this forum.
People posting that they reply "no comment" all the time because of the severely adverse effetcs of some stating that they hate the way it can control your team morale.
Then people posting that team talks are pointless because it's having rarely any effect on their squad and not bearing any results at all. Seems like the attitude is pretty contradictory, ain't it?
I do believe morale in the game has bigger fluctuations at times than it should and it's often a bit of a "lottery" trying to figure out what's best when for which players and so forth. (statement made to show I'm not a pure fanboy LOL)
After a while, I can see which players can or cannot handle pressure in media comments and optimize my choices as best as I can. Team talks are hit or miss which seems fine to me as well since I'd rather it be that way then having them +/- morale so much that it makes my squad totally bipolar.
It's a fairly new feature though so I can understand implementing only a few choices to limit all the permutations. I'm assuming SI will add more in the future though and tweak some of the fluctuations, but in general I think this aspect is doing fairly well, maybe 85% there. Definitely not something to be scrapped though as it adds a more dynamic feel to the game then static players with no personality.

I think its time they start all over for FM09. Lose all the sideissues programmed into the game and make sure the gameengine and other important features or flawless again and again enjoyable for everyone.

I think the best way of doing the team talks would be to have an option of saying nothing at team talks, that is the same as a 'no comment'. Basically, a generic team talk, when you have nothing particular to say. There are a lot of times where I'm in a match, get to half time, and none of the options are what I'm thinking. So, just being able to give a bog-standard team talk, which makes no difference at all to how the players are playing, positive or negative, would be an improvement.
Then, when you did say after a match that you were pleased, it would mean a lot more, and, the less often you said it, the more of an effect it would have. And it would allow people who don't want to bother with team talks to carry on playing, just selecting the generic option, and relying entirely on tactics and quality of players. After all, there are a lot of people out there who can make good speeches, but would not make good football managers, whereas you can listen to some managers who are duller than ditchwater, but are tactical wizards.

The worst thing about teamtalks is the way a few words can actually give such incredible swings in performance.
I decided to post this as Ive just finished a game where I won 5-4 after a half where I was 0-4 down after 15 mins.
I was angry at every memeber of my team and tbh knew I would get the points or at least a draw after I score 2 goals within the first 4 mins of the 2nd half kickoff.
Ive had this happen to me many times also- been cruising at 2 or 3 up, tell my teams performance not to drop and within a minute or so I know if the AI manager has got his teamtalk right as they will score. I then shut up shot and invariably win 3-2 as I nick a goal on the break and they predictably get one to allow for a tense last coupla mins.
Now why hasnt the teamtalk feature been fixed- in fact morale in general? Its been a problem since FM06, and its no wonder we are seeing lots of irate posters as tbh many are getting fed up with the same old story every year as SI leave in known flaws.
Its not good enough.

I don't like the options when I'm winning at half time but have been playing awful. Used to be able to encourage rather than saying I am pleased or simply disappointed. Disappointed = morale-kill.
