I remember a few days back, some bright spark posted a discussion entitled 'Is FM08 Playable or not?' (or something similar).
A lot of people answered 'unplayable', and of those, a few said they would switch to Fifa Manager 2008 by EA Sports.
I myself ( an FM vet) have spotted a few issues in FM08, but certainly not enough to switch to a different game. However, looking at the screenshots at Gamespot, I must admit I was drawn in by the plethora of silly options and the slinky looking design. I was also looking forward to seeing my team in 3D, so, rather embarrassingly, I regret to inform y'all that I downloaded a copy of the demo. Below are my findings in minute detail:
Fifa Manager is S**t in every way possible (and some that haven't been invented yet).
Those of you moaning about FM08, STOP IT!! Despite it's foibles, It's by far the best game in the genre.
Well to be fair, EA is a massive opponent, especially when they're able to incorporate the brand names and sponsors, but the game itself is shallow and unrealistic. It had a kind of 'arcade' feel about it.
Problem is these days, too many people are prepared to accept poor quality games so long as they have shiny graphics.
I remember back on the Speccy, the Commodore, Amstrad - you had games that were crap in every way possible so far as graphics were concerned, but addictive, difficult, superb games.
Fortunately, it seems mostly to be the strategy genres that have the gameplay and difficulty that makes them last.
