Team talks: Useful addition or just a complete waste of time?
Personally i see them as a complete waste of time. When you get it right its fantastic but this only occurs once every few weeks. The most likely of response is "doesn't seem to be listening".
Players with the same mentality i.e. determined, hardly ever react in the same way to team talks which i find strange as it is recomended that you have a team with a similar personality.
Personally i think the morale side of the game needs a complete overall as at the moment it is far too sensitive without allowing you to successfully manipulate the media and team talks. p.s i have read countless threads on the issue and they have helped get a reaction every few weeks but most of the time you can't get a reaction from any of the players.

My thought are that they are a good idea in theory but a bit of a mess at the moment.
I have managed to be successful without using them at all, but maybe I could have been better still if I did use them.
From what other people that swear by using them on here say, you should not necessarily be put off by the doesn't seem to be listening comments, and judge their effectiveness more by the performances of your players on the pitch.
I hope the whole team talks media etc aspect of the game has been significantly improved on FM08 though.

I agree that being able to affect your team mentality and morale by team talks, medie ect. is a good idea but it just hasn't been successfuly implemented - unless i have missed something.

Like many people here, I initially hated them. If some of you remember I denounced their use cos I couldn't get my head around them. In the end I found the assman function easier. So I'd look for the ideal assman...one who had tactical knowledge, player ability determination and motivational skills. It worked for a while, but there used to some strange results.
And then there was a wave of people on the forums namely Jep and Supersaint who got me to look at it closely. I did a morale test for a whole season and I noticed that morale effects were very strong in the game and they affected everything from training to ingame results.
With that around December last year i started experimenting with teamtalks. I got more wrong than right, and then I started observing how media, the players personalities, team talks all worked together. Its not ideal mind you, there should be more options but with what there was on offer it was still manageable. I managed to turn matches around on their heads and started seeing.."motivated' and "fired-up" as a response at halftime and this drove me further.
The natural result of all this cascaded into my results as I started stringing really good results that helped me with my long term career with Merthyr Tydifl, culminating in little known shanty becoming the footballing mecca of the world.
Teamtalks could do with some improvement, I doubt if there will be more options to choose from in 08, but they are a great tool to use. The challenge is learning how to use them. Its not a steep curve by any imagination, its just takes observation and good note-taking skills.
I'll be more than happy to help anyone who still has problems with it. I'm not saying it will work 100% of the time, but in those games where a goal separates you from the title, teamtalks come into their own.

I agree with what rashidi said, at first I just left them to my assman but after seeing some people posting good results using team talks on here i decided to give it a go.
My personal favorite is the "question the teams passion" team talk, I find this one works best when you've gone in at half time behind when its a game you should be wining.
The hardest part is getting to know your players personalities so that you know which team talk to use.

A set of general guidelines for each situation would be good I suppose.
I personally just hire the best assman I can find like you used to do and leave him to it. One less thing to worry about.

Would be good if you could start a thread about this with the gist of what you have found to date and then we could put up any scenarios that we are struggling with.

Have you ever look at what your assman is actually saying to your players.
my assman who has good stats for motivation, etc most of the time just says "for the fans".
I have found that using my own team talks i'm wining more games from comebacks, than i used to, including coming from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against Barca in the champions league final with Macc town.
