While I don't agree that they are 'a complete waste of time', I do sympathise with the OP. They are a pain at present.
As Rashidi points out, its merely a matter of taking notes each game, paying attention to team-talk feedback, results, performances, etc..
That is a real pain though. Imagine for a moment if to compensate, the game compiled these notes automatically for you: A chart of how each player has reacted to media, team talks, scorelines, etc.; filterable, with graphical analysis. Yummy. Then you'd consult the chart and determine for yourself if player X could use an "I'm disappointed" speech.
This chart of player personality and performance history would be accessible in the team talk screen. A roll-over popup would appear as well as you hovered over individuals in the dressing-room:
"@ 4-2 down against heavily favored opposition:
Jim has responded well to 'have faith' and 'relax', but badly to 'disappointed' and 'angry'. Suggestion: 'have faith'. Probable result: .00 --> .5 change in form for the second half."
Or something
As things stand its very difficult to get to know our players without taking extensive notes. If we could get some sense of their locker-room trends without compiling notes on our own I think it could become more enjoyable.
